So what cars have challenged you?

More recently a lot of cars don't even want to compete. They're like no thanks. Which honestly is the most respect the M5 can get. Last two challenges off the line were against a Porsche 911 turbo and a Mercedes S63...the 911 gave me the better challenge but they both fell short of course. What has been your experiences.

LMAO.

This tread is going to be interesting, if not incriminating. Please post videos with velocities encoded.

JK.

I have to get even with a guy who smoked me in my '16 M2 with his heavily modified Z06.

Snows coming off this weekend.

Mike

I will be looking for revenge for a couple of hellkitties, some 911's and a zo6 that would not roll race me but beat me at the strip. BTW, took delivery of my third and possibly the last M5 I will ever need.

Well I had a rather disappointing encounter with an Audi RS7 Performance in the lights, as he beat me twice. The M5 is pretty hard to get the launch control right. First time I used launch but I couldn't get the timing right with the light (I held launch control for over 10s) so it just bogged miserably when launching, and second time I just floored it (I was scared to use brake boost given how it had bogged before), but I think the Audi used brake boost and lept ahead of me.

Nevertheless I have been challenged by a 911 Turbo S 991.1 in the road and we were pretty even. They pull about the same from speeds in excess of 100 all the way to 300+. Have also played with my mate's E63 S and we were pretty even too (the M5 non Comp is a tad bit faster from 100-200 but over 200 I would say they pull the same). I have also been challenged by a Pam Turbo (previous gen), which I smoked easily and have also beaten a W204 C63 Weistec Stage 2 easily.

My most fun race was with a Ferrari 458. I smoked it several times in the highway, but the Fezza's noise is just so beautiful. The owner couldn't believe an Exec saloon had just beaten his car. He was later asking if it was tuned or had any mods lol.

Are you stock? Was it a 991.2 or 991.2 Turbo? The 991.2 Turbo is about 1 tenth and 1 MPH quicker than an M5 Competition.

This seems accurate to me. I would think you would beat the C7Z06 and HC's at the strip though - unless they were wearing DR's?

The LC once you get it is easy - if you press the gas too hard it will make your tires break loose slightly and mess up the launch. The 991.1 Turbo S is impressive - although fairly significantly slower than the 991.2 Turbo S - I would have though he would still pull you as he traps higher than an F90 M5 (about 125-127 for the F90 and 127-129 for the Turbo S - all on average). I can see the 458 going down as they trap in the 125-126 MPH range - but have been pretty stout in rolls.

I have found the same thing, that if you floor it all the way it seems to not able to hold position. But my problem was the timing. If you hold it for 2 or 3s it works fine. The trouble is if you hold LC for a longer period (like 10 or 15s), it starts to decrease RPM, and it just bogs down when you release the brakes. It also fails to change gear automatically in 1st. I have not found the system reliable to my eyes. I have an Audi RS3 also, where LC is just mash the brake, mash the throttle, and voilá. And it holds 4k rpm in LC until death if I want to.

I don't think the engineers had in mind using LC waiting 10-15s for a red traffic light to change

I will agree - I have not had this issue anywhere else. It forces me to ensure that the other car is fully staged (which I tend to do anyway with AWD drive cars) - before I fully stage. That way - once my second bulb activates, the countdown is usually immediate and less than the time to hold the LC before any negative affects happen.

I have been very consistent with the setup actually.

Have you built that RS3? I'm sure it's quick, but what kind of a top end does it have? Give us details.

Built motor, trans and Big Turbo (IMS1000 kit). 60-130 full weight is 4.7-4.8s. Track prepped should be low 9's @ 156. Runs E85. It's an incredible platform.

Is it as streetable as your built F10 was? I wouldn't think so at the level you've taken it to.

Are there any idiosyncrasies to a five cylinder motor?

Probably more streetable than the built F10. I daily drive it, take kids to school. It's as soft as you need, but on boost its just nuts... I mean could the built F10 be as quick.. probably but never got to that point. In terms of usable power... say 1000whp on the F10 vs. 850 on the RS3. The RS3 wins hands down.

The F10 had no traction. F90 sort of solves that problem, but its still heavy. I nearly got one as well, but maybe a used one someday. The F90 solves all the F10 problems except the weight.

I'm watching the Redline YouTube review of the RS3 as I type. It's titled "The Little Supercar Hunter".

In the 6 months I've had the car, I had my first "encounter" 2 days ago on my way home from work in a town 30MPH zone.

A white 320D X-Drive M Sport with the full M Performance kit pulled up alongside me at the lights and beeped his horn so I knew he was there.

When the lights changed, I just let him go as it was just not worth wasting my petrol on. He was probably telling his mates down the pub how he'd beaten an M5

I have a 2017 RS7 performance, its easy to launch but unless his was modified, you are faster. I think it just came down to the launch and nothing more. My M5 is on order, have had a bit of seat time in my buddy's M5 and I assure you the M5 is faster if launched correctly.
