F90 M5 vs Porsche Taycan

It will be out for sale this year ( revealed very soon ) and it has impressive performance.
0-62 very low 3 sec. M5 will be just a bit faster if not the same.

The Taycan has very impressive repeatability, which is very amazing for AV!!!!
Tesla S warns about repeated use of its brutal acceleration setting, the Taycan offers no such thing.
In the video below Jonny Smith launches about 30 times without problems in Taycan. Similar to TTS.

To archive this they use two permanent-magnet electric motors at each axle, which have a unique kind of assembly that allows more copper in each stator, improving output while simultaneously providing for more efficient cooling. ( also using liquid cooling for battery) Porsche also noted the thermal management system, which was built specifically for the Taycan to ensure this kind of repeatability.

I saw news Porsche claimed Taycan Turbo can do 0-124mph in under 10 seconds repeatedly for 26 times before performance starts to degrade. If that's true it's pretty impressive.

Under 10 seconds is faster that M5C (BMW official quote is 10.8) but since I have a P100D I also know after 124mph the acceleration slows down significantly, I wonder how Porsche will do in this department.

The Taycan is something I'll likely be interested in down the road a few years (after they've been around a while) but even given the supposed start price I expect a comparable vehicle won't be price competitive with the M5, Porsche really likes to get you with options.

Good luck getting an allocation if you want one. Electric is not for me, but I understand the allure. My dealer has 25 deposits already and might get 1 or 2 at most. Demand is through the roooooof....

Supposedly there are more deposits worldwide for the Taycan than 911’s that were sold last year.

I'm excited about the next major M5 revision which looking at the prototypes, will probably incorporate hybrid tech. Still want the cold start and sound notes of the ICE so won't go full electric anytime soon.

I'm not knowledgeable about electric performance from a rolling start. From a dig I know they're incredible, does Porsche say anything about 60 to 120 performance?

No, it will be revealed soon. The way this car was pulling over 220kph is amazing.

This liquid cooling those help big time.
Tesla dose have issues with slowing down

I also saw this...sub 10 second 0-124 MPH means this car is a mid to mid high 10 second car. That is almost Turbo S quick.

Well, first up: I'm ashamed I didn't know of this channel until now especially so since it's got Jonny from 5th Gear hosting. Secondly, why am I suddenly so happy to give up my ICE when Tesla haven't been able to pry even the idea from my cold, dead (well, aging) hands? Seriously, why!?!

Eh, who cares, it's a Porsche--net net: I'll take one thank you very much.

Wow, it looks good too! Unlike Tesla is has tires with some width to them. Tesla just looks so tin can/plastic to me and the skinny wheels just kill the look.

This car looks good. I'm still holding off on Electric until I'm forced to buy one and even when I do, I'll still sleep with a can of gas next to my bed.. lol

In four years or so, I hope to replace my M5 with one of these. It’s the first electric car that really intrigues me.

I test drove P100D and i have to say it's super fast but couldn't buy it. I am so used to noise and MT

Maybe as Family car, wouldn't mind using it as DD

M5 is the DD. Wouldn’t get a Taycan as a fun car, that’s for sure.

The averaging sub 10 second 0-200 KM/hr over 26 passes in a row is quick. The Turbo S is about mid to low 9 seconds - high 9 seconds in heat. I have to believe the Taycan is at least a high 10 second car - and probably mid to mid high 10 seconds on full charge and cool temps. If the Taycan is a 10.5 car it is literally right in the Turbo S space. My guess is 10.6-10.8 but 10.5 will be possible.

I wish the interior was more like the 991 or first gen Panamera with buttons rather than everything being touch, but apart from that it is good to see what an actual car manufacturer can do when they want to make a medium-full size luxury sedan that is powered by batteries, we've only had small cars or SUVs like the i3 or Leaf and Kona or I-Pace.

This is definitely a big step forward.
