Awesome to see the M5 doing so well. I dont have the 5 but have the '20 M8 looking forward to tuning it. Feels like a heavy boat so the tune should wake it up.

These results make sense. The convertible adds a couple hundred pounds and I didn't recognize the tuner. Not sure the tires on both cars but the Porsche was uncharacteristically spinning on the launch.

Nice runs but i'd take the 911 over the M5 any day of the week.

Yep, a 2.6 would have been even better.

M5 is a great daily fast sedan, but who cares how fast is it in a straight line?
Exactly as someone mentioned here, you can have a super fast car from Civic, if you dump enough money.

I got stock 992 Turbo S, 1/4 mile 10.3 (3 times in a row, very consistent)
Tuned 992 Turbo S (just tune, no exhaust, etc.) did 9.8

Mine is on the left - tuned on right.

Let me share some common senses regarding the drag capabilities with these cars.

10.5@136mph from the slip in the video, is pretty much the 992 turbo S stock performance with low traction.

The 991.2 turbo S, STG2 flashed, should do 140mph all day, and 10s flat or into 9s dependent of traction. Obviously the 10.5s shows the bad traction. Normally in the race like that, the 991.2 tts wins by a couple bus length.

M5's 131mph indicates it's properly flashed (126 or so stock). 10.5s@131mph is basically the 991.2 turbo s stock performance on a unprepared surface.

Bimmer community needs to calm down. This is just one of the poorly executed drag races.

Both times are very impressive. The new turbos on the 992TTS really make the power with a simple tune.

Out of the few reasons to choose an M5 over any 991/2, this is not one of them.

For real. I just picked up a 992 and my m5 has been sitting in the garage for the last week.

the M5 is a great car and frankly one of the best all around vehicles I've ever had but the 911 is simply more engaging and fun full stop. 1k miles in 3 weeks since I picked it up.
Just keep an eye underneath your 992 for coolant weeping around the pulley (at the 3k mile mark) . It's mostly with the 991.2 but many 992 owners on Rennlist have also complained. I had a 2019 C4S (bought new) and had 2 water pump failures (one at 3k and one at 6k miles). Other than that, it was a fun car but unpredictable so we got rid of it

Did you have a coolant leak/water pump replaced? - Page 4 - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums

oh wow. I mean my 911 has some other minor issues thankfully nothing to do with the engine or drivetrain but I'll definitely keep an eye out thanks for the heads up and happy thanksgiving!

BC that's "tuned" 991 TT is running times a stock car runs not a tuned one

The 992TTS runs 10.2 1/4 mile and traps significantly higher than M5

That said the M5 is VERY impressive for what it is

Manual or PDK? Perhaps trade both and pick up Turbo S...

I'd say the same too before I owned one, a 2019 C4S. Bought it new and just got rid of it for my inbound F90 M5 Competition.

I actually don't miss it a bit. I also drove my friends stock 991 turbo (cream color) and sentiment was the same. Anything other than a GT3RS is not really worth it, dollar-for-dollar and thrill per mile at that price point (plus the dependability issues and repair costs).

I just didn't see what all the hype was about. So, yes they are "fun" cars but best bought used as track cars. There are many other cars that scratch the itch just as good if not better than a 911. It's amazing what good marketing can achieve.

The M5 is the complete package IMO. Luxury, stealth, executive cruise missile

I disagree. Had 2019 F90 M5 hated it. 300 miles in 6-7 months and that was NOT during Covid. It just wasn't fun driving it. This is not a knock simply not my kind of car. For context I like my M4 Comp better than I Liked my M5.

Sure it's fast in a straight line but zero fun for me anyway. I also felt from a dig it's no faster than my standard fair 992 C2S both hit 60 in 2.9-3.0. Was the M5 faster 60-120 I would say yes but not nearly as fun as my C2S. Now if People want to start comparing it to a 992 Turbo and the M5 loses by bus lengths

It's a Sedan obviously and I don't like it's steering nor suspension. A large car that's neither tossable nor sporty feeling

The 992 is a large step up from the 991 but even stock 991.2 Turbo S runs same or better times than this "tuned" 911 in the race. The 992 Turbo is running very low 10's at high trap speed in stock form

The bottom line is these two cars are for completely diff purposes.

Ones an extremely capable sedan and it does that very well the other an everyday sports car

I've owned far more BMW's than Porsches so def not a Butt Hurt Porsche owner just stating the obvious
