Tried launch control and park assist for the first time

I've had my 2018 X3 M40i for about 10 months now. Today was the first time I tried the park assist parallel parking feature. I was shocked, it actually worked, and it did a great job! - I was also able to try the launch control feature over the weekend and it was very impressive. I would like to hear what other members think of these features.

I was pretty keen to try out the park assist feature when we first got our car back in Dec, but for some unknown reason my wife (who drives the X3 far more than me) was not interested one bit and was telling me she didn't want to be in the car when I tested it out!!!
Needless to say I went ahead with a quick test but I found it all a little too fiddly to be honest. By the time I understood what buttons to push / hold etc, I could have parked in that time.

I am still longing to give it another go, just to get use to the whole process, however it needs a quiet road, without causing a queue behind me

Did you manage to get the 4.9 seconds from standstill to 62mph....

Actually was it noticeably faster than full on acceleration without launch control?

I've used Park assist a couple of times in the shopping centre car park just for giggles, works very well, my Mrs also gets a bit twitchy when I use it. Once you know the engagement routine its pretty simple and gets you square on in the space. Not tried Launch control, that seems a bit of a faff to engage..

I must admit, I've never used parallel park feature (worried about wheels against kerb) and never used launch either in this car or my previous 330d Touring.

Life's to short...I need to give them a go.

I've launched my 30d just the once, very impressed by the traction in damp conditions, really quite brutal.

My old 330d would loose traction briefly even in the dry.

Need to learn how to use park assist but not really bothered.

I just found out the car will also (self park) back into a traditional parking spot, the process is the same. So it's really easy to practice the procedure in any open parking lot.

I didn't time the launch control 0 to 60, but it felt very fast.

Nice idea but not too sure about the 'Too Fast Too Furious' underbody LED lighting system!

I use the park assist several times a week. It does a better job than me and hasn't made a mistake once. Estimating I've used it 200 times

I love using my parking assist feature. It is a bit of process to get things going but love showing it off to friends.

Launch control is great. When my car was stock I used to get 4.4 to 4.5sec to 60mph. I always let my boost build up and RMP at 3000. Now with JB4 map2, catted downpipe and BMS intake... I consistently do 3.8 to 3.9seconds to 60mph.

Using the self park feature is really spooky - but it works well.

Perpendicular and parallel parking have been available since the G01 made it's debut for the 2018 model year.

I never used the perpendicular parking yet. Does it just "know"?

The problem for me using the system is that I can park pretty quickly, whereas using the system seems to be a lot slower of a process, thus you get impatient people blocking you trying to get past :-/

My 2016 340i has both the parallel and perpendicular parking.

However, I need to control the gas pedal manually whereas my G01 is fully auto ie will do both steering and gas for me.

I don't trust the G01, just me though not the car, but I feel more confident in the F30 due to the gas being under my control.

The G01 gets really really close in front/behind and makes me too nervous!

Sounds like I'm the only one here that uses the parallel park feature frequently. I find the system in the X3 to work well enough because I can still apply the brakes if it's going too fast for my liking.

But in that case the process is interrupted, isn't it?

Park Assist is something I rarely use because I'm not confident it won't hit the car to my right.

I think it has something to do with the angle it chooses when it backs into a spot. When I make the same maneuver, I tend to leave more space between that car and mine. I've also experienced that Park Assist doesn't get my car completely parallel to the cars on either side.

I can see why you might use it in very tight spots -- if you trusted it and were prepared for that Masshole in the F-150 Platinum on your left and the fool with NY plates in the Escalade on your right to door ding your very expensive G01.

My big disappointment is that it never seems to find a spot unless there are cars -- I'd use it more often if it offered to park in much more empty lots.

Not at all if you're still pressing on the parking button.

Parking assistant X3 2020 with Live Cockpit not working for me

I have the 2020 X3 with Parking assistant plus, and so far out of 3 attempts, I have to abort otherwise it is heading on a collision course as it is backing up to do parallel parking. It appears that it tries to make too sharp of a right turn and my rear is on track to hit the parked car in front of me on its side. I was also told (by the BMW genius) that with live cockput idrive 7.0 you don't need to hold the Park Assist button down while it's doing the self park. But if I release it stops the maneuver. Any one else having this issue?
