Thanks for this! Just ordered a set from them. They also sell and install the Jb4 but I'm going to wait for Carbhan to authorize a shop closer to the Toronto area hopefully they will soon!

Just opened up my airbox. 2021 X6MC Canadian spec. There is NO Carbon Filter, just regular paper filter.

Edit: now that I think about it, the charcoal filters are an emission thing, so that must be a US vs Canada thing, then.

It "seems" that the charcoal filters seem to be a North American thing. Europeans don't seem to have them. But, they have to deal with OPF sensors in the exhaust.
Not 100% sure though, because I believe there are a few folks in N. America that looked and didnt have them. Maybe it was an "oops" in the production line? Maybe they ran short of charcoal filters and skipped a few cars? Who knows. |

I ordered mine in Canada. However, they are not scheduled to arrive for 4-6 weeks. I don't think they are actually available to ship yet.

That's for US orders though. Your mileage may vary.

My order from last week was told 2-3 more weeks before receiving so getting closer I guess. My question though is despite all the speculation and discussions will they really make a noticeable difference in performance or maybe just add some induction sound to go with the turbos

So..... my filters arrived today..... except they were the same filters used on the standard 50i (and the M550i, and several other V8 models).
I knew it as soon as I saw them. I've had them in my hand before, and I recognized they weren't correct. Why? Because I told BR-Performance the correct filters to order. Rather than listen to me, they contacted BMC, told them my model, and BMC sent the ones to a standard 50i. Grrrr. Even BMC isn't fully aware of which models these filters fit, which ones they don't....and the difference between them. They were made for the F95/6 X5/6M.... but they also fit the G05/6/7 models.... but ONLY the models with the "M50i" designation, as ONLY the M50i models share the same intakes as the X5/6M models. 2020+ X5M50i 2020+ X6M50i 2020+ X7M50i 2021+ X5M 2021+ X6M THOSE ^^^^^^ are what these filters fit.... and ONLY those. Be careful when you order.... dont allow BMC (or their licensed dealer) to tell you that your M50i model takes the same filters as the standard 50i..... they don't. My tuner trusted BMC over me..... which was a mistake. Correct filters are now on order... correctly this time. |

You're still going to get them before the rest of us! Congrats for you. Ours is evidently on the slow boat from Europe!

That said, I will definitely get them because I am hoping for a bit more turbo noise from the intake side of the motor. |

Strange that the M5's have them but not the X5M/X6M. Wonder what the rationale was...

For those few skeptics left that still weren't "100% sure" that M50i models, and the X5/6M models shared the same intakes..... and were still uncertain that these filters would fit..... it's confirmed.
They are the same intakes, and they do fit. Tools needed: 1) flathead screwdriver 2) #20 torx bit (with 1/4" socket driver or ratchet) Procedure (15 minutes) 1) Remove engine cover (pops off, no tools) 2) loosen intake clamp (flathead) 3) loosen 6 torx screws (per side) 4) remove top portion of intake box 5) R2 intake filter 6) reverse above procedures Is there a difference? Yes and no. To my surprise, I noticed no difference in low-end torque. However, I "believe" I noticed a small difference in high end torque, right before shifting. It feels a bit more "spirited". Not a lot. Not "Earth shattering" difference by any means.... but it's there. The sound: Not much inside the cabin. Outside the cabin (or driving with windows open), I can hear a faint "sucking" sound, and a faint "pssshhh" of the wastegate right after shifting, that I never noticed before. Again, not Earth-shattering..... but it's there. And.... I'm going to tackle those intake silencers next. The X5M doesn't have them.... why should I? More to follow. Hope this helps.

Oh.... one more post.
My tuner had to tell BMC that their system reflects these filters as ONLY fitting X5/6M intakes. BMC's own system incorrectly shows M50i models sharing the same intake filter as standard X5 50i models (and several other V8 BMW cars) BMC..... the company that makes these..... will try to sell you the wrong filter for your M50i model. Derp. This is what you need for all M50i models:

Nice, thanks for the review. Would have loved to see before and after performance numbers. It's always hard to measure a butt dyno.
