Odd engine noise over 4000rpm

I first notice this a couple weeks ago (~1500 miles total) and then not at all until twice in the last week:

Sometimes when I accelerate above 4000rpm I hear a noise that sounds sort of like air hissing or whooshing...a bit like HVAC refrigerant line noises or power steering pump (which I know this car does not have). It doesn't seem to be affected by the engine setting or ASD button. It sounds like it is coming from "in front" of me. Anyone have any ideas? Next time it happens I'll try to record it.

Of course the car is quiet today. I was wondering if it was turbo spool noise but if that's the case why don't I heard it all the time and not just occasionally. My other thought is that ASD has a bug and is making noises sometimes.
