Would love to hear the real world answer from shawnhayes once he gets some time behind the wheel of the M3CS as well his thoughts on this!

I've driven these cars both on the STREET, which is the same as these guys have. I do NOT have both of them on the same tires, and my pilot 4S's on the CS are aging.

HOWEVER, I disagree with them on acceleration so far (but I don't have our M3 CS out of the break in period yet). The M5 is so torqey that the early part of acceleration is much stronger then the M3.

Other parts is that the interior of the M5 is so much more roomy and luxurious than the M3, which is quite basic.

Oh, and the M3 CS? NO CUP HOLDERS. NONE. The door pockets will hold bottles and such, but damn. I thought the M5 CS loss of the middle compartment was a loss. The M3 CS loses even more.

I'll weight in more with more time to compare.

Heck of a video and comparison IMO. These guys are good.

I will be interested to hear what you think once you get it broke in, that M3 Comp is a monster so I would be surprised to hear it didnt feel a touch faster and more agile.

You are definitely right though the M3 does feel a touch cheaper inside, well a good bit cheaper to me tbh... I was kinda disappointed with the build quality compared to the F90 M5. Sound is way better in the M5, Im not a fan of that sound on that M3, sounded like the engine was gonna blow.

I would also be very surprised if the M3 CS isnt the fastest ever production car to lap the Nurburgring but will the M4 CS be even faster?

That Brooklyn Grey M3 looks incredible though, come on week 27!!! What are your initial impressions of Idrive 8?

I’m curious to see shawnhayes update on this too. Maybe I should stop following… as I would like to also grab an M3 CS but it wouldn’t be practical and there’s a 0% chance I’ll swap. I feel like a lot of the review covers items I’d expect the M3 CS to better at or feel better at anyway. If it wasn’t more agile or better in corners that’d be a bit absurd. I sort of got the feeling the guys reviewing maybe have less butt time in a large sedans in general, which is part of what is great about the M5 CS — but I could easily be wrong. I think they did mention they had a lot more time with the M3 than the M5 at the least.

Also I’d like to see some 60-130 times on the M3 CS. They indicated at speeds the M5 was not pulling. Curious if the M3 CS has <7 sec 60-130 times or if maybe the gearing or something was just not there.

No matter the above the M3 CS looks baller. The M4 CSL just didn’t do it for me but the M3 CS looks like it’s money!

Idrive 8 is a little non-intuitive. Finding the odometer shouldn't take three swipes and three clicks. It does.

I prefer the old system - for now. After I learn it, it may be better. We will see.

I have been driving the M5 CS for over a year, and had the M5 Competition for 3 years prior, and the difference in street driving is bigger to me than the difference between the M5C and M3C. The steering response and sense of control is just on a different level in the M5 CS.

That being said, I'm not certain if these changes really make a difference to the M5 CS's performance on the track. I have not driven it there, but did notice that the CS's track times with pro drivers put it behind its competitors like the AMG GT 4 D, Panamera, M8 Competition, CT5V Blackwing, and even the M4C XDrive. Maybe it's because of the lack of rear wheel steering.

I had a tough time trading in my 21 M5 comp for an M3 CS I just felt that the extra agility id gain from the 3CS wasnt worth compromising the rest - comfort and luxury of daily driving the M5comp. I did have to second guess myself a couple of times though. I also couldnt justify the 118k msrp plus 12k the dealer wanted over sticker. Maybe at msrp I wouldve jumped on it. It did look impressively sinister in all black with the gold wheels.

I do expect it to be more agile and have more feel than the M5CS though it just makes sense that a car that much lighter and smaller with similar CS tuning from the M division would have more feel.

With that being said theres a ZERO percent chance I would take an M3CS over an M5CS unless I was exclusively tracking the car.

It also seems like they put more exclusive things on the M5CS than they did on the M3CS like an exclusive front splitter and rear diffuser. It looks like the M3CS is using the same rear diffuser as a regular M3comp not a big deal just interesting that on the 5cs they really went exclusive on most of the whole car.

Yeah, like no cup holders in the M3 CS. LOL.

The upgrade from my 2018 M5 to the 2022 M5 CS was HUGE. There may be an effect from the seats. When you aren't sliding around, you feel much more in control.

Do you have any references for those differences? The VIR lightning lap isn't quite the same. The M8 was five seconds a lap slower than th e M5 CS. But there are different tracks and different drivers.

The front splitter on the M3 CS is VERY unique. It's like it has dive planes. But the M5 CS's is also unique.

The M5 CS is more comfy. It's also very very stable at speed and under braking. We'll see on track. That will take me a while.

This is an annoyance. Really. You don't realize how much CRAP you do with cupholders until you don't have them. They hold more than cups.

Below are example times from Hockenheim. VIR is another, the Nurburgring is another - there are others on the net as well.

M5 CS: 1:53.6 (I realize this is a pre-prod car, but I don't see the final car making up the >1 sec difference)
AMG GT 63S: 1:52:3
Panamera: 1:52:5

Replying to my own post after AutoTopNL tested the M3 CS. In their previous testing the 100-200 time for the M5 CS was 6.69s. The time they got with the M3 CS was 7.16s. So nearly half a second difference.

JA just posted up a good review of the M3cs on the tube.
He had a lot of good feedback; likes the M5cs better.
