Yes, it does look like M is taking a play book from Mercedes, where it pretty much known off the bat there will be the "standard" AMG and then an S version for most models, both released at approximately the same time.
I don't necessarily think it's bad thing, as it allows the consumer to decide whether they really need the 0.1 second advantage to 60 mph on their daily commute to the office, or the slightly lower ride hight as they navigate the occasional storm coming home from work. Or, I don't know, they may just like the wheels better or the black accents. One thing is for sure, the LCI (maybe more than one!) is coming for both the base and the competition, so either wait forever or enjoy what you decide to buy.

It's not standard because a lot of people don't want ccb. They are prone to heat cracking after just 1 or 2 track days. They have issues with noise and scratching. And they cost like 15k or more to get replaced.
Most Porsche and corvette people swap theirs out for iron brakes. That's why Porsche is releasing a new type of ceramic brake in the cayenne to hopefully remedy some of these issues. And it's not even like ccb are vastly superior to iron to warrant a massive price and massive cost to replace.

What's wrong with this forum lately? Married for more than 15 years.... And extremely happy. Cars are things, it's ok not get attached to things. Learn to differentiate....

I mean, the MSport exhaust did come as an option on many of the non-US spec "base" models already for MY18, but maybe that's wishful thinking to believe BMW would let you pick and choose the components you want to add on. |

I don't think there will be many "unhappy" M5 owners at the moment. |

Pretty exciting update. With a July production start, when could we expect deliveries realistically? How long did it take current owners to receive your cars when you ordered?

The comp pack is likely to fetch over 20k here which is a lot of $ for what you get . All chrome trims can we wrapped for 500$ I'm planning a drop (HAS ) and even the -7mm doesn't do it for me .. so 1to 2k$ for suspension would have been necessary. Wheels I'm not a big fan of the stock and also comp pack .. so no regrets here. I will go aftermarket. Sport exhaust was added in my config so all good. Performance, ok I'll admit I'm a little jealous but my F80 is tunes to 515 so there is hope As for the other parts, no doubt this will make the F90 more agile on a track and a good driver will easily be able to differentiate both the stock Vs comp pack. I'm not this driver So all in all, I'm very happy with my F90 and have no regrets missing out on the comp pack. |

I don't know, it's hard to say what other people will think. Maybe they are not unhappy, but if it was me for sure I would rather have CP, especially if I plunked down serious cash.

People, enjoy the car you have. There will always be a faster, better model coming soon. When I purchased my F10 M5 with the competition package it did not bother me at all that the M5 Jahre Edition came out soon after that was 600 HP and the latest and fastest M5. This is really a first world problem that many are complaining about.

Yes in real life CP won't make much of a difference to your everyday driving but people who makes enough money to buy cars at this level tends to have a little ego too. I am sure it wouldn't sit well with some now that their newly purchased M5 quickly became the "base" M5. I still would prefer CP came out at the same time, or at mid-life cycle. But it is what it is, though now I am curious, what will BMW do for F90 mid-life refresh? |
