Misc questions for my 330i..

Couple questions after having driven my 330i for 1700 miles:

Has anyone activate the DTC while they are driving? I live in LA and it seems unecessary to push that button even when it rains... Does DTC make a whole alot of difference?

Secondly, does the highbeam xenon have the adaptive, moving with the steering wheel function?

Lastly, I have heard and seen the blacklined rearlights. Anyone know where I can get those online or through a southern california vendor?

Answer to the first question:

The default setting is with the DTC activated. When you press DTC, and see that on your display, it is deactivated.

I'm assuming when DTC light is on (after pressing it), it's on. Does anyone have it on always?

Anyone know about second and third questions? Thanks.

i thought DSC is on all the time, for DTC, you need to actually press the button. DTC should just be a special case of DSC. i may be wrong though.

I thought you had DSC by default.

Press the DTC button and you're in DTC which allows a little wheelspin.

Hold it down for 5 secs and you're free to do donuts.

As for your usage, Hamann3. In LA you will never need to press that button for weather reasons. DTC is good for getting up a snowy hill.

However, you could use that button for getting sideway -- if you're into that.

here is the page from the manual. it should make the whole DTC DSC question clear.

for your 2nd question, i believe high beams are adaptive as well.

about blacklines, if you search the forum, you'll find a million threads with links to where you can get them. maybe pacific bmw?

High beams xenons are adaptaive as they are the same light bulb, only difference when you turn it on is a piece of cover retracts allowing more lights out. So your light will still move the same way.

Blackline you can search for this guy on ebay (baum-automobile_de). Quite a few people on here bought the blacklines from him with good reviews. I think the price comes out to be cheaper than most of the dealerships in US.

Now I'm confused.

I thought DTC was always on.

Pressing the button, deactivates stability (DCS) and leaves DTC on. I think that's what the manual means i.e ONLY DTC. Otherwise, traction control would always be off and that doesn't sound right unless it is catered for as part of the overall DSC feature.

Anyone?

Are you sure you posted the right manual? My does not look the same. E90's function suppose to be... DTC on at full function as default, pressing the button once allows the DTC to engage slower than usual, holding down the button for 3 seconds disengages it completely.

I think the manual is wrong. I agree with noflash, the DTC/DCS are always on by default.

just try pressing the DTC button and you'll see it will flash in your OBC while DSC will never appear there. they are separate things but related. DTC is more hardcore, e.g., if you get stuck in the snow or if it's very rainy, or if you want accelerate hard without burning rubber.

my SA actually told me not to use DTC when going faster than 25mph because it supposedly puts pressure on the rear axle. don't know how much that is true though because he also told me there was no break-in...

i doubt it is wrong. that would be a huge mistake that would have been definitely corrected for post-september production cars. plus, it makes perfect sense to me, i don't know why it seems so unbelievable.

Good news guys-everyone is right:

-DTC is a function which must be activated by pressing the DSC button once briefly.

-DTC however is a de-activation of slip control (i.e. with DTC "ON" the function that restricts wheel spinn is deactivated and the rear tires are allowed to spinn).

-so "Activating" DTC is in fact the act of turing the anti-skid control "OFF".

Sounds like BS to me. The DTC button should actually be labeled the "FUN" button.

Putting the car in DTC mode allows you too skid around and have fun.

But this should of course be exerted with caution [courtesy of my legal department he he]. I guess your SA doesn't want anyone skidding off the road.

Cheers!
