Wrong Oil in M3?

Hey guys,

I took my M for regular service this week. I reviewed the paperwork this morning, and it appears that they put 10w x 30 bulk oil in my car.

The SA is checking with the tech to see if that was a mistake on the paperwork and he did indeed put the correct oil in.

Just looking for advice on what should I ask be done if they did in fact put the wrong oil?

I'm not very mechanically inclined, so any advice is appreciated.

Regards

You don't have to be mechanically inclined to do your own oil changes from here on out - unless you have other dealerships in the area that won't muck things up (assuming the incorrect oil was put in the car).

I don't know any short term issues that could happen with conventional (another assumption that bulk oil is non-synthetic) oil with the wrong weight, but don't drive the car until your SA tells you what happened.

You should just change oil yourself and call it a day. Maybe that technician put the wrong oil in and is now saying that he did not, to avoid the blame for making a stupid mistake.
This is why i never let anyone change my oil but myself. Even during free maintanance, i was doing it myself.

Quick update...so the SA checked with the Tech. On the Tech's sheet where he indicates what he did to the car, it shows he added the correct oil. It appears that the Parts folks selected the wrong item when putting together the paperwork.

Regardless of the mistake, the dealer offered to go ahead and change the oil again for free. Just got the phone call that the oil has already been changed again.

What schnell was implying was that the dealer could have said they changed it but didn't.

I see now. That the OP should be cagy about the dealer really changing the oil. I guess if he gets paperwork saying the oil was changed with the 10W-60 then he’s covered.

I'll certainly get an oil analysis with Blackstone on my next change. They would tell me if it's not the 10-60 oil.

I did notice the oil level is higher on the gauge. It was at the 1/2 mark after my last oil change, and not it's about 9/10th of the way towards the top now. I'm pretty confident they did change it again.

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions.

Or they just added a bit of oil........

Just kidding

And you shouldn't have to wait for an oil analysis to tell you if it's 10w-60 or not, lol. Just change it yourself so you KNOW there's 10W-60 in your car.

At any rate, glad the dealership made it right.
