Dynoed: JB4 vs Carbahn

I had Carbahn Stage 2 Power Package installed last week and was able to Dyno 3 scenarios. The hardware was installed first and then software changes were all done while the car was strapped to the Dyno to save time and $. It was a DynoJet and 2 runs of each tune were completed.

Existing upgrades: Akrapovic Exhaust, Secondary Cat delete.
Hardware Installed: CSF Charge coolers, Carbahn Heat Exchanger and Map Sensors

Results:

635 whp @ 6,720 rpm. 711 wtq @ 3,130 rpm JB4 Map 1

540 whp @ 5,290 rpm. 625 wtq @ 4,100 rpm Stock (JB4 Map 0)

665 whp @ 5,990 rpm. 733 wtq @ 3,100 rpm Carbahn Stage 3

Notes:
-94 Octane fuel
-elevation 3,400 feet

-At the track, JB4 Map 1 had better results than Map 2 or Map 3. So the test was done on Map 1.

-JB4 Map 1 was driven on for weeks. The Carbahn tune was immediately dynoed after installation. I would like to eventually rerun Carbahn on the dyno after weeks of driving on it.

-MOTORWERKES Calgary, Alberta did the installation. I experienced professional and knowledgeable staff as I was at their shop for over a day. The shop foreman and technicians were determined to provide a quality installation. The parts advisor and the service advisor were also very friendly and professional with their advice. It was my first time there and plan to return for future service.

Great to see the back to back result comparison. I agree the Carbahn could do even better with some driving time for adaptation. The fancy intercoolers and heat exchangers might not do much on the dyno or a street pull but they should give more consistent performance on the track.

Dynojet will be in SAE or STD or Uncorrected. Most run in SAE or STD. STD is roughly 2.5% more than SAE.

Uncorrected is my favorite for a turbo car.

Considering the price and that you tried the lowest Jb4 map, I'm very impressed by the power of the Jb4 vs a flash tune that's 5 times the price.

Yes, I am surprised by the power in Map 1 JB4. However, to be fair, the comparable Stage 1 Carbahn costs $850. I will get quartermile figures in another month to see if the extra hardware makes a difference.

Isn't that horrible that JB4 can compete with a tune.

Great update. I had Carbahn installed a few weeks back. I am thrilled with the performance. What I didn't expect, which was a nice surprise, is how smooth the car feels while shifting. I thought it was smooth before but it's butter smooth now. I have stage 1 with Dinan turbo inlets and muffler delete with x-pipe.

Your car will definitely get faster as the tune adapts and to your specific octane level. I am currently running 100 octane to let the tune adapt; the car is an absolute beast. I need to get some new tires. I plan on getting a dragy to show real world results.

Interesting comparison. I've read the 94 octane up there is similar in performance to 91 octane. Would have been nice to also see what each option did on race gas or E85 using the strongest mapping option.

I tend to doubt any one tuner’s off the shelf tune will have significantly more power than any other for the same octane fuel and same mods or stage tune. Maybe they use different dynos to measure.

You really can't compare my dyno run of Carbahn vs anyone else. Too many factors that can be different. The only comparison you can do is to see the difference of the 3 tunes that I completed. Same day, same air density, same fuel, same car, etc.

Not sure what you are referring to. Here's the results that Carbahn has posted on their website for Stage 2 for whp.

93 Octane:
Tuned W HP & TQ: 666 Wheel HP & 635 lb-ft Wheel torque

100 Octane:
Tuned W HP & TQ: 700 Wheel HP & 642 lb-ft Wheel torque

They may also be using different dyno types. I’d focus on the gains for the octane/mods/stage.

That's great. I didn't realize there was an e85 map? What else has to be done to take advantage of that? I assume fuel pump and injectors?
