New to the M5

Hi all, picked up my F90 M5 last Thursday.

Joined the forum.

Have a question.

Does the M5 have an Auxiliary Battery?

Where does it live?

Cheers,
Glenn.

Hi Glenn! Congratulations on your purchase and enjoy it in good health! Please share some photos with us.

The F90 does not have an auxiliary battery. There is one lithium ion battery, and it is in the trunk.

It has a small phone sized battery for the SOS ecall system under the shark fin in the roof. This is considered a consumable as it last around 4-5 yrs

Thanks for clarifying. There is that additional battery, but I didn’t think this is what OP meant by auxiliary battery. I was thinking he was asking more along the lines of the ones by the cowl on the G30.

I found this out last month when I had mine replaced under warranty.

Some Connected drive services stopped working and this was the reason why.

Exactly — this battery is dedicated for those services and the SOS emergency call system, and should not be used to power other devices off of in the way one might typically use the engine bay aux battery on non M 5ers.

Photos delayed a little, the reason I was asking about the battery was the iDrive had a "Replace Battery" fault.

Took it back to the dealer for replacement, I have a tale of large proportion to tell when I have the time to write it up properly. Suffice it to say, it's being delivered back to me 12 days after it went in for a 2 hour battery change.

This battery issue seems to have been precipitated by sitting on a lot for 6 months, they replaced the battery, delivered the car yesterday.

I took it to my local tyre guys, they had a look at the wheel balances, some mug had previously balanced the wheels, so all the weights came off and new black ones put on.

An example was one wheel had 350g of weights removed, replaced by a 25g and a 15g for the perfect balance, unbelievable!

I just loathe, hate, despise, when they balance poorly and use too many weights and for some reason don't 'stock' the black ones, cause you know, only the F90 M5 has black wheels....NOT...
