Having been in a few nasty ones myself, glad you're ok with really quite minimal injuries.
It looks like it could have been so much worse. The car is a shame but can be replaced. Maybe hitting the racoon blew an oil line, which went onto the road? |

You need to ask yourself what was the biggest common denominator in your multitude of other accidents; HINT... It wasn't the car. BMW poses a double-edged sword for you. The very high level of performance proves an irresistible temptation, but its solid construction and passive safety features, speak for themselves. |

Glad you're ok and telling us the story. I had a similar crash with similar damage to myself and the car. Same, conditions, but it was 100% my fault, not assessing the conditions. Car went sideways and I hit a large, metal electric pole at around 60mph. This was 15 years ago and it was life changing for me.

Glad you’re not more banged up, the car sure is! Has your insurance company given you any grief over your driving record? Five totaled BMWs must have cost them a lot of money. |

Nope, didn't cost them anything lol, like I said first 3 were rear ended (drunk driver for one, second kid not paying attention at stop light, third snow) 4th bmw crashed my car at the port when it arrived in US this is 5th which is the only one my insurance is paying for lol... drunk driver had insurance, other 2 paid cash to settle since they were cheaper cars (10-15k range)

Wow that's a terrifying picture. Glad you are ok and able to be back with family and friends.
Curious about what could have reduced the risk in case a raccoon pays a visit - would avoiding the brake pedal have helped control the oversteer? Hope this is your last dose of bad luck. |

Main issue is you have a split second to figure out what you want to do and once your decision doesn't play out as you wanted it to, you have to try not to panick. Once I figured I was going sideways I probably could have whipped the car around to try to save it with a 360, but wife being in the passenger seat had it not worked she'd have been the one taking the brunt of the accident so I'd rather be the one going headfirst into the trees than try to save the car and send her side into the trees (if you notice passenger side barely has any damage and she walked away with a single cut on her leg from the climate control screen popping out and scratching her) |
