Buy the fucking porterfield pads!
I'm not resistant at all if I knew this would be a sure fix. I started another thread a while back where this was recommended to me. I know two other pre-LCI, non-CCB M5 owners who went this route that I have done a few HPDEs with. Both said the Porterfields did in fact reduce the squeal for between two and three weeks, but then they were right back to how they were with OEM pads. Also, while there are numerous forum members here who have had success with the Porterfields, I've read a who have not had any success. Between (all of) us, I would have spent $500 PER PAD to eliminate the squeal. Are yours 100% silent?

Thanks Jose! I've seen your recommendations for both before to other forum members. Which one did you start with and why did you end up trying the other? I could imagine a situation where you tried the first one and thought that it was better than OEM, but perhaps that there was room for improvement.

This route might be better than screwing around with pads LOL! I am contemplating it for my incoming car.

Today was our first day of true warm weather that felt like summer since last year. My windows were down and I was jamming to some music.

A powder blue Subaru Cross Trek with two women in their late 30s or perhaps early 40s pulled up immediately to my left in the left turn lane as I continued to screech up to the light. The passenger rolled her window down, stuck herself out the window at mid torso and screamed, "Your brakes sound like SHIT!" I was so taken aback, my mouth tried to form words, but no sound came out. In my bewilderment, I couldn't get anything out. After a few seconds, she wall full torso out of the window. She stated this time, "Your brakes sound like FUCKING SHIT!" before offering me a tip. "Put some fucking paste on them!" she bellowed.

They got a green left turn arrow before I got the straight arrow green. The driver popped an illegal U turn, and sped off in the opposite direction while I picked my jaw up off my floor mat.

I contemplated adding this to my previous (and now dead) brake squeal thread, but then thought this should have its own post.

Pre-LCI, no CCBs.
Why the mystery of which "northeastern" city? And I think the phrase "smile and wave boys" comes to mind. And the term lesbaru…which I never miss an opportunity to remind my mom since she bought her Subaru Forester. Haha
LOL. Did it have a bike rack?
Lol this was one of the few that I have seen that did not. BUT it did have a roof rack with a Thule Cargo box up top and a million bumper stickers from every nature/outdoorsy place in our region.

She was! I tried to figure out if she was drunk or something. It's one thing to stick your head out the window, but half your body? Lol.

Yes my wife's brakes became completely silent after the pads change. She was so annoyed with the squeal and told me to "fix it." Thank god porterfield existed haha

Mine started at about 500 miles on the clock and have been persistent since regardless of weather, driving style, etc.

Thanks for the input. Could I ask how many miles are on them now without squealing?

In 2018, Porterfield was really the only option available for F90 pads. They were on my car almost until the day I sold it and were great for about 15k miles.

When EBC released the Red Stuff pads I bought those and and stored them until the Porterfields started to make noise.

I put about 2k miles on the EBC pads before selling the car (to my brother) with zero issues, no dust and zero noise. My brother has since put almost 7.5k miles on the pads with no issues.

Ben at RGSport seems to have some new pads as well with some great initial results.

Happy to have CCB's on current car LOL!

Good luck!

It’s a ‘21 (LCI), but only has about 3000-4000 mi (bought it, then COVID hit). I’m wondering whether I’m just lucky, or if it doesn’t happen anymore on LCI’s, or whether I just don’t have enough miles on her yet.

About 9000 miles I believe. I replaced the pads last October.

I guess it just depends either on the car or the driver? I'm 900 miles in noy a single squeek just groaning when trying to creep forward which is well normal in any car lol. Will be interesting to see if mine start squeeling at some point but I'm fairly confident they won't. Still kind of funny what happened to you nonethless🤣🤣🤣

I hope that they stay silent for you! Hopefully that will mean they're going to be silent on my incoming car as well.

Glad to hear you're at 900 already. Resisting temptation to push the car during break in is brutal. I'm already planning all the driving I'm going to do to hit 1200 as quickly as possible!

Haha yeah I got the car back from detailer on May 10th at night, been driving all over the place, not really driving hard but I have been giving it a decent amount of throttle just not "full throttle" so it's seen anywhere from about 7.5-12 psi of boost on pulls since I like to break in my cars about halfway between babying and thrashing them lol

That's the best way to break in a new car IMO. Not babying but not hammering it at every stop light.
