Can anyone clarify? X5 50, x5 m50 and x5m

Hey just a clarification question. So as I understand there is currently a X5 50 and there will be a x5m and a x5 m50 ? Just a bit confusing . If this is correct, then x5 m50 would the M sport version similar to M850 and the like , yes? Forgive my ignorance, haven't had coffee yet .

M50i is replacing the 550i, so there will be no more 550i. It has the updated engine and 530hp. And yes, it is comparable to M850i in its class.

The X5M will be "the real M" car. Much sportier, louder, probably 620-650hp. Maybe a bit to much for everyday (but just maybe ).

Hmm I don't think that's correct. I'll let the real experts weigh in, but I believe the 50i is staying around in addition to the M50i and X5M.

As mentioned the X5 50i will be available for 2020 however you will not be able to get the MSport package, it will just be xLine. The X5 M50i will be available and maybe towards the end of the year the X5M.

For the most part the 2020 M50i is the 2019 X5 50i M-Sport with 67 more HP. BMW is keeping the standard X5 50i for 2020 but can’t be optioned up to M-Sport level anymore. This is also true for the X7 line.

For 2019 there is one V8TT and one inline 6TT.
For 2020, BMW will give 3 X5 trim models available with a V8TT and one with a inline 6TT. This is refreshing considering the competition is using a four-cylinder turbo.

Just a fine point, but I believe the 40i engine is an inline 6-cylinder rather than a V6 configuration.

there never was a 550i since this isn't a 5 Series Sedan

50i will be X Line only
M50i will be M Sport only and a more serious performance model than the normal 50i with suspension tweaks and other things
X5M is the full. blown version of the X5 nothing held back

I can't use all of what the 50i has now even with aggresive driving. 90mph to 120mph blast are effortless and uneventful so it's a matter of more untapped hp is just more hp.

Extra power is just a small part of an M car. These cars are built to a different standard throughout. Better components where it counts, more thorough development more rigorous testing etc. Even if you only care about the engine the improvements go far beyond extra hp. The cooling will be miles better etc. The M cars are true bargains in the automotive world, every one of them and the X5M will be worth every penny spent over the M50i, I’d go so far as to say that this will be true even if the X5M would be rated at the same hp as the M50i, which it obviously will not...cause bragging rights
