Question Radar/lazer built in hardwire

What setup is everyone using for a built in radar/laser hardwire?

Last vehicle had k40 setup which I liked but I believe may be a bit out dated now.

I have the new escort build in system. It's like all season tires - best at nothing but pretty good at everything.

I have a simple Escort Max 360 hardwire. I went through the passenger A pillar and fed the wire down to the fuse panel below. It's a conservative, windowshield-mounted set-up, high up to the right & relatively obscure from the outside.

Nothing fancy, No laser jammers or built-in system though. Didn't want to chance it or drill anything (plus car is leased).but effective enough for me for Ka/Laser in this area. I bought it a couple of years ago for my 2019 911 C4S and it has never let me down so far. Good enough for now in the M5C LCI.

I couldn't bring myself to install a windshield mounted unit.

It's a personal preference as I refuse to put up with the look of a box on my windshield.

Then is was between a ghost mirror installation and the installation I currently have. The M5 LCI has a rear view mirror that does not play well with the ghost mirror. It will make the display only visible at night and not during the day. So after initially trying the ghost mirror I opted for this installation.

Look up ALP. I'd be surprised if there's any laser defense equal to it. You can pair it with several different radar detector options. Stealth hardwired install with no visible box, all smartphone. Not cheap though, and installer skill and experience is crucial.

Yes, very impressive stealth set-up, looks OEM. Looks like Hardbob definitely has more disposable/discretionary income for sure!

We closed on a new construction within a week of the F90 delivery and still filling it up. My wife would would not be a happy camper if I spent $3k+ on a radar system at this time so I went the more conservative route.

Choice though if you have the means

I have the ALP / Radenso full set up with the laser jammer. Have had it for 3 months and love it.

It is NOT cheap and I think I debated for 2 years before pulling the trigger.

Glad to hear it's treating you well too. I've had my ALP system with NET radar option for 3.5 years and it's never let me down. The degree of optional customization is insane, both from number/type/location of sensors, as well as the the functionality. You can turn on or off every type of radar signal and band frequency based on your location. Also get regular firmware updates. Cost me 5k back in 2018 for the whole install.

For laser defense, ALP is the only system that actually works. Nothing else should even be considered.

For radar, there is no clear winner. Radenso and Escort have strong offerings, but they each have trade-offs.

K40 is garbage. Avoid it.

I need to read up and play w/ the customization - running it exactly the way the installer set it up. I do need to turn the K band off completely, not just reduce the sensitivity. Good to hear that your experience has been good with it. Cost me almost $7K - YIKES.

Yeah K band is turned off for me. No police use K band anywhere on the eastern us. Only those speed limit signs with the radar built in use that, and other cars with blind spot monitoring. Ka is all I ever need.

Only thing we really need here is KA. No K and very minimal laser.

Just going to go the route of a stealth escort system

Yeah, I played with different K bands left on for a while and finally turned them off because here in the southeast, it's all Ka band (specific frequencies) and laser from the cops. X band allegedly still exists too, but it's as antiquated as being chased down by a velociraptor. No doubt it's an expensive system, but it's so sleek and customizable, and most importantly, the damn thing works. It's only something I'd put on a car if I'm going to keep it a long time (my M5) or every car if I had insane amounts of money (I don't).

ALP at least makes it easy to change these settings with their website and a USB stick.
