Oh man, I think if I already had a BMW m4 CSL like your moniker says, I would get the Caddy for sure! Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade my m5 but that Blackwing is sick and as you know most difficult to get! Build that sucker out!

I'm not sure about my vote. I had a 2004 CTS-V I bought new, and now a 2009 CTS-V that I've had since new. I wanted the M5 back in 2019 when it looked like "V" was becoming "M sport" (which Cadillac already had called "V Sport"). But my wife wasn't on board with a new car then. When the Blackwing was announced I got approval to get that and got on the list. I test drove a 2019 M550, M5, and M5C and really loved the M5C. I'm still on the fence about the M5 vs BW (which I'm on a bunch of waitlists for).
The Blackwing has essentially the same powertrain I have now so I worry it will feel too much like the 09 V (which I love but I've had for 14 years). The M5 is so different (DOHC Turbo V8, Auto, AWD) and there are so many other little differences between GM and BMW. The M5 is nicer inside (but also $25k more) and more of a hassle out of warranty. Both a great cars. I think it comes down to what matters most to you. Raw track numbers or best all around. Even then I'm not sure when you factor in the cost difference. That said, my M5 has entered production, and the Blackwing is unobtanium. Ideal world: get an M5C and Blackwing 6M. But even then I think I'd only drive one of those all the time. These are great first world problems to have. |

If you want a great handling and riding 600+ hp, manual transmission, RWD, semi-luxury sports sedan, buy the Blackwing. All reports are that the handling is incredible due to the magnetic shocks. It is not for me because I don’t track and like AWD to help manage the power in the all season weather that I drive in.

The biggest difference is AWD vs. RWD and auto vs. manual. Everything else is preference honestly. For me, living in a cold climate, I do need AWD. The M5 is undoubtedly faster, although the Blackwing may be more fun. Depends if you live in a cold climate and have another car to drive in the winter...

Go for the BW, we already have lots of data points on how good the M5 is. Get the BW and let us know how it turns out after a year or two of ownership.

I was on board with the BW having owned a 2018 CTS-V. I placed an order for a 5 BW in March ‘21 but my dealer kept whatever allocations they received for the ‘22 MY for themselves so they could mark them up. Bastards.
I had a feeling it was going to be a complete shit show trying to obtain one of these so I placed my M5 order 7/21. It was delivered 1/22 and it’s been flawless in its first year. Many people are having issues with their BWs if you read the forums. That combined with my shady dealer really soured me on the brand. GM is still having trouble fulfilling orders with carbon fiber options. I want(ed) mine loaded so that worked against me too. My dealer finally offered me their 120 anniv edition allocation but it would have stickered at $150k. Sorry but that’s not Cadillac money regardless of whether or not it has a clutch pedal. After owning my V and 2 SS Sedan’s before that and I wanted something other than an LS motor. I’m really enjoying the M5. I do still have an order in for a BW since last October at a dealer that won’t screw me so we’ll see how it pans out. At this point if I still wanted one I’d probably just wait for the refreshed ‘24 model.

I picked up a 5BW a couple of weeks ago and loved it…and the I drove a M5CS and traded the BW for it a week later. Wasn’t the best timing to run across a pre-owned CS obviously…
In terms of the BW, I actually really liked it. It’s basically a modern day e39 M5 - amazing GT with a ton of character but not very raw. Sounds great…steers ok (better than most modern cars but not as good as CS or Gulia Quad)…very fast and the motor has character…comfortable suspension. Prob would outperform the CS but again, it’s not quite as raw feeling. I do the think Caddy feels more solid and has less rattles than the f90 as crazy as that sounds. All in all, depends on what you want - Caddy would be an amazing daily and or GT. |

I have one rattle in the passenger visor but overall, it just has cheap plastic from time to time in different areas…particularly the infotainment screen surround on the dash. I’ve had a lot of seat time in an X3M and it’s pretty much the same.

I just love my M5 Comp and the overall utility is amazing. I took mine to the track (note, I traded up from an F80 M3) and I was surprised that the M5 Comp was that much better on the track as well as the ride there and back. However, I would love a manual...but when I see the articles from R&T and C&D about how fast the M5Comp is, I realize that my choice was solid. See the attachment, I am not sure I believe 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, but that's what they tested.

I tried the whole Caddy thing when I got a CTSV although it was a nice car I found my way back to BMW something about it didn't fully do it for me. In your case getting a CT5V Blackwing allocation. I still would go for it and try it out for a little when selling you should do fine and if you want to get a BMW they are a dime a dozen.

My local Caddy dealership had someone who placed an order ('23 6MT) forgo delivery. I couldn't say no as it had the CF1 and CF2 packages which have been difficult to come by. Doesn't seem like BMW has trouble finding the carbon fiber bits. GM on the other hand is handicapped on their Z06s and BWs due to "limited to no availability" for carbon fiber bits.

M5 much better quality interior and exterior (interior materials, exterior paint, panel gaps etc). BW more engaging as any manual with a V8 should be. I just wanted one last call to a V8 manual sedan especially as each iteration of the M5 I've had loses something engaging - manual, RWD, N/A etc. Magneride is like floating on air when in the right settings. M5 still my daily particularly as I'm in bumper to bumper DC metro traffic an hour and a half a day and absolutely love the car.
