S63 reliability

I'm looking to get an x6m … I know this is the m5 platform. However, same engine.

I'm worried about getting into the car because they seem to be unreliable and grenading issues.

I want to buy the car I would plan to buy the x6m but now I'm Leary… any advise

I was concerned about this too, this being my first BMW. As the above post mentions, 2018+ should be good as long as it's maintained properly. A BMW tech confirmed this for me too, then I found this article that set my mind at ease:

The s63 is extremely reliable. I've had three vehicles with this platform. They don't grenade unless you tune to unreasonable torque and/or run really high boost with pump gas. If you want big power, build the engine with forged rods.

I have had a 2019 F90 M5 Comp since new till date. No major issues except for some small niggles like the low pressure fuel pump issue. Other than that been pretty reliable so far.

Cars are not meant to be driven this way.

Lugging is detrimental to all engines, not just BMW.

This is harder to do with an auto trans than with a manual trans, and all S63 produced since 2016 have auto trans.

Look into the prices for extended warranties. If the S63 is as unreliable as you hypothesize it will be reflected in the warranty price.

Why would someone be in manual mode lugging the motor? People use manual mode because they want to rev the motor more than it would with the auto shifting. If someone insists on finding a way to be stupid, let them.

Maybe they do not know what they are doing or just a mistake. For some reason people often floor the accelerator. I would not be surprised if it happened in the wrong gear.

I have probably floored one car in my life. It was a Ford Taurus company car during a long stretch of open road in Oklahoma.

I have floored every car I have owned more times than I can count and most cars I have driven. But I knew what lugging was before I had a driver’s license and don’t do it.
