I've found that if I press the exhaust button, extinguishing the indicator light, prior to starting the car that the startup "roar" is eliminated. If you immediately put it in gear and start moving you'll avoid the high idle portion of the cold start and the sound that comes along with it.

Yea that’s always been my “go to” if I can’t tune it out

So you put the car in gear while the rpms are at 1,500 ?
I wouldn't do that unless its a lease and you don't care.

Yes, that's exactly what I do.

What is your specific concern about selecting a gear when idle is elevated?

I would figure extra stress on the tranny

Why do you want to delete the cold start out? It's one of the awesome things about the car?

99% of the time I love it, but every now and then it's nice to fly under the radar when leaving for the airport at 4:30am or running an errand when my 1yo is napping.

Full Keller catless to full Eisenmann Race in a concrete enclosed garage parked directly below my bedroom in 30* weather is why haha. My wife isn’t a big fan of waking up at 5am which is my normal start time for the day.

I agree. I see no issue with shifting into gear while the car is idling high. It’s never been an issue and doesn’t feel at all like it’s adding any stress to transmission

I too have this same problem but I live in a building with the garage underneath with primary and secondary cat delete.
I have been waiting for the Ecu unlock to be available here in the stages for a real tune but I may go the JB4 route.
I use auto start from upstairs while car is parked in garage under the building. I am on the 5th floor and with the windows and doors closed , I know when the car started
If you are standing within 10 feet of the car you can't hear the person next to you yelling. I can imagine someone walking their dog or baby carriage right at that moment would scare the hell out of everyone and be uncomfortable as well .
Im sure the they appreciate all the extra carbon emissions as well . Lol
There are 2 m8s and 2 other M5s all stock and their cars I can barely hear when they floor it leaving the garage meanwhile I hear mine start loud and clear

Do this if you had a STD exhaust.
Your non std exhaust is the issue!
I put a custom stainless exhaust on a car many years ago. Totally ruined it. Never again.
The STD exhaust on my M5Comp is pretty much perfectly judged for me.
But everyone to their own

I am in the same boat, I keep my car in undercroft parking, is stage 2, catless downpipe, res delete and super loud… even if you click the exhaust button it just eliminates the "roar" on the startup but not the noise while idle on cold start. Using my other diesel car when going to the gym in the morning 😁

I have the MPE on my '21. I don't even have the valves button to help!

I usually start in efficient mode early in the morning, but even that is loud until you put the car in reverse, which is usually instantaneously. Never had a problem.

It gets rid of the crackling by bringing the rpms down, but doesn't help the drone until the cold start backs off.

Wow I bet your neighbors love hearing your exhaust.

Pay someone to hold their hands tightly over the exhaust for a few minutes.

I have never understood obnoxiously loud exhausts on a street vehicle. The performance gain, if any, is never worth the nuisance.

Don’t get me started on Harley riders and their typical exhaust mods.

LOL

I would, but in today’s labor market I’d probably have to offer >$25/hr, full benefits, and let them choose their own schedule only to have OSHA all over me for the EHS violations.

They'll need to vaccinated as well
