I have a feeling that the new G20 3-Series will look good. I am a bit weird though. I absolutely love the G11 7-Series but am not excited at all about the G30 5-Series, so I am thinking that new 3-Series might surprise me. The new M340i is supposed to be getting the updated B58 engine with 355hp which I think will make an excellent daily driver on those days I want to save miles on the M5. Here's to hoping! Oh and I also think the ///M8 will be a moot point for me anyways as I expect a fully loaded one to exceed $170k and I may as well shop for a McLaren 570GT for that kind of money.
Yeah, McLaren's are looking good once they take the first year depreciation hit. I agree, at +$170k, BMW is going to have some stiff competition.

IMO too conservative and evolutionary VS the old M5 whilst Tesla is revolutionising the car industry and MB is launching the AMG GT Sedan...

Thanks for the side by side comparison. I still love the F10 design. I want that Steering wheel with the "Missile Launcher M1 & M2 levers" retrofitted on my M5 immediately.

The Next James Bond movie better have this car in it.

Yes, the information seems to point to that it's 15 kg later than the old one. (33lbs) which will put it right around 4300 pounds.

What he's saying is that it could've been 3900 pounds without the all-wheel-drive.

Can someone do G30 vs F90 front/back/side comparison? I am wondering how different 550 looks vs M5 (eg does it have wider rear body panels, etc).

New model is superior in every way, inside and out. Not just visually but in everything else too.

I'm talking about the drivetrain weight, not the whole vehicle with all the weight reduction using carbon fiber roof, aluminum body parts which I like. The marginal weight advantage is also due to 15L reduction in fuel tank size.

Like the E39 M5, I think the F10 M5 will be timeless.

I really like the new design compared to my old F10, but really wished they would add a bulge to the hood like the f80. With all these new M performance models now in the lineup it is not differentiated much from the front end. Looks like any M Sport 5er.

I'm looking forward to the M340i as a possible replacement for our 435i GC.

The problem with the current 3/4 series in my opinion is that these cars are neither particularly comfortable nor particularly sporty. The seats are far from great, the ride is on the harsh side, a bit too much noise, the A/C isn't great, etc. The 5-series is much better (other than the worse handling). However, if some of these things are improved in the G20 generation, the M340i could be interesting.

I don't know about getting a 2019 G20, though, because of my fear of first model year issues.

Watch out 1970's caddy's your about to look small compared to the 5 series.
They need to grow with their owners to make room for the m1 and the m, what 0.5 after that?

This m5 is only 4 or so inches short of the previous generation 7 series and the wheelbase is less than 3 inches shorter.

Which means anyone in a m5 now and say in their 30s or 40s peaked too soon because their next car is going to be a right barge. Haha

Design: F10 (hands-down for both interior and exterior)

Tech: F90

Features: F90

From a design standpoint though, the F90 looks plain (especially the rear-end)

I'll have to agree. Not a fan of the new car.
Busy for no reason. No longer clean and aggressive.
Interior looks busy and cheap.

No way it's going to be 3900 pounds even without AWD.

More like 4100 lbs but that's one less fat guy in the seat which makes hell of a difference.

I was exaggerating but now I had to go look it up and apparently the xdrive makes the 550xi weigh 155lbs more than standard 550i so the actual weight would probably be around 4100-ish without the AWD like the guy above stated, which would have put it in the E60 M5 weight range.

That's pretty significant for handling since it would also improve the front to rear weight distribution. AWD is better for straight line acceleration in low gears or inclement weather though so pros and cons either way.
