New rear tires testing wheel spin with RC
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Temp was around 70 degree. The main purpose was to see if new tires could prevent spin with map7. I first tried it in stock for reference. Got 3.06 (2.87 with 1 foot roll) the first try in stock form. With new tires, I could wait more than 2 second to get it fully loaded and there was no wheel spin. I turned on map7 for 2nd try. Waited 2 second and was glad that there was no spin on 1st gear but felt spin going into 2nd gear. The result was 3.13 (2.89) which was slower than that in stock form. I think that is mostly due to wheel spin. The best 0-60 so far was with map6 with early releasing brake. It was 2.82 (2.60). I am really interested to know what is the potential improvement if there is no spin while doing LC fully loaded with map7. My guess PS4 may have better chance to achieve that. What's your tire pressure?
Maybe drop it a bit to get more traction.

It will give you much better traction. Just don't go over pot holes with that.

Will do so, thank you very much!! There are so much of new apartment construction going on right around Tesla where I drive to office everyday. The road condition is beyond words. I will bring my portable air compressor to Pump pressure back up after runs......

You might want to try short-shifting into second to minimize traction issues at the top of 1st. I haven't been able to try this myself but will do soon.

I lowered pressure to 30 all around and tried few runs this afternoon. Wheel spin did improve (less spin going into 2nd gear) but I think the rolling resistance may have played some role and the time actually was slower...........3.03 (2.85) vs 2.82 (2.60). I was a bit surprised with the time but during acceleration I did sense the pull was not as strong compared to when pressure was set around 33-34 psi.
Driving with lower pressure with so much construction did get me concerned. Pumped it back to 33 afterward. |

This run looks more like it. The front tire was 31.5 and rear 32.5 and 0-60 without roll is 2.81 at slight uphill.
It was last evening with temp around 50 degree so wheel spun a little bit on test trial. I chose to do this run with slight early release brake. I think the time will be a bit better with warmer weather and lower pressure a bit more. |
