Should we get serviced by an Indy shop to avoid the update?

on my 21 M5C there's no longer a difference in sound between performance and not. I'm pissed. Id avoid the update if i was you. Also the remote start doesn't work anymore. Fucking garbage ass German software.

You need to tell them (or they mention) to get the recall done for them to do it. Most dealers probably wouldn't have a problem skipping the recall if you tell them not to do it.

It will be like having a tesla sound soon.
It's not fraudulent selling something that does not achieve what is suppose to do ? MSport Exhaust, etc ...?

If they remove the sound of gas engine on sport car, and push fake sound in the interior, i think they are killing it.

Whe all know electric will be the way soon, but for now, the main thing about an gas engine performance car is the sound. if they remove it, what is the purpose to buy this car now. They are removing one important part of the fun.

The tune software a friend used for his '09 3 series included the pops and burbles option.....I am not sure if you can just aftermarket code that back yourself with Bimmercode or similar. I had coded OUT the pops and such on my '16 M2 and '18 M5 (doh' I just use the button now....LOL). So worth looking into as an option to undo the neutering of the M5. So far mine has not been changed.

What is curious to me is why the tone of exhaust for these cars must be cut down, while Harley's can be the loudest thing on the road and that's perfectly fine...? Why the disparate treatment? Does Harley have a larger lobby or something? LOL.

Got the tank ventilation recall done last week. No change whatsoever in the great sound of my exhaust. All the pops and crackles remain.

Harleys in stock in configuration from the factory are quiet motorcycles. Having owned numerous Harleys over the years with the last being a 2013 HD CVO Road Glide. The CVO from HD is the performance division with a larger displacement engine and little bit louder exhaust. Most if not all HD riders opt to replace the exhaust. My current motorcycle a 2018 BMW R1200GSA has the optional Akrapovic slip exhaust and with the baffles removed it is louder then my 2013 HD CVO.

I recently had the recall done on my 18 M5 and the pops and bangs are still there in sport+ but not as prevalent as before I had the recall done. I am perfectly fine with it and I rather have them gone completely. However I can understand why owners are upset with the reduction of the pop and bangs and those are experiencing them completely removed.

Thanks for the info and beautiful bikes you have there! I rode a Katana for a while in college, years ago before helmet laws and it was a blast. My wife won't let me ride anymore as she apparently wants me around for some reason or another. LOL.

So I guess the same should apply in theory to bikes yeah? If the exhaust is modded they would be subject to the same regulations. That makes more sense.

Just got it done. Car definitely feels different. The crack between 1-2-3 upshift is muted and less aggressive. The down shift pops below 47 mph (generally 3-2-1) have become ( weirdly ) louder but yet less aggressive and less frequent. The tone of the exhaust sounds different to me but I'm not sure if i'm just hearing things or not. This is coming from a person who could make this car rolling thunder any time I wanted, and I did so very frequently. Now it only pops cracks half the time and mostly 2nd-1st. Before, It would snap crackle pop from 4th-1st with out much effort.

Also, the car just feels off to me . Like its missing 75 or 85 hp's. Maybe the computers just have to readapt or my butt dyno isn't working, but she is definitely acting like she has the flu.
Not happy, but I knew what to expect when I went to service this morning

I had an issue with one of the coolant bottles on the F90.
The seam of the bottle had failed and it was like there was a pinhole shooting coolant everywhere. BMW replaced this under warranty.

Three weeks later I get a drivetrain message and the car goes into limp mode.

Recovery come out and tell me they can't do anything at the roadside and the car goes into the dealer.

Dealer calls me the next day to tell me that the cap on the BRAND NEW bottle they had replaced under warranty had failed and cylinders 5 - 8 had coolant all over them.
Dealer tells me it will be 4 new coiles, 4 new injectors and 4 new spark plugs under warranty.

I tell dealer I do not want the software update and they ask me why.
I explain the situation and tell them I do not want the exhaust note to change.
Dealer tells me he hears this on a regular basis from F90 owners and assures me the software update will not change the exhaust note.
He tells me it is if the recall for the fuel tank vent issue is done the exhaust note will change.
He promises me he will only do the software update and not the recall.

I get the car back and there is no issue with the exhaust.

The point of me telling you this:
It's the recall that results in a muted exhaust tone.

Well, check this out….I refuse to do the recall and now everyday I get the stinking notification when I turn the car on in the morning. Then, I wanted to order my lease payoff to see how much it is, they will not give it to me electronically because of the outstanding recall! They don't want you buying it out without the recall being done. This is BS.

You are better of getting the recall done before buying the car, sound wise.

This way, if it sounds like crap, just don't buy it.

I understand no one likes anything 'taken away' from them, but the M5 was always designed as a sheep in wolf's clothing anyway. Pops and bangs are more for the AMG crowd.

I miss my pre-recall noise, but doesn't make me moan at every opportunity, as it still sounds awesome.

Mine was noisier after the recall!
I rarely use Sport+ for all the pops and bangs...just stick it in Sport.

Just picked up a 21 comp and it seems to pop and crack on heavy downshifts, however, it seems to do it more and or be louder once the car is fully up the temperature.

I totally get what you’re saying, but the fact that we had it and then lost it with no way to get it back is very shady in my opinion. I love the sleeper aspect, and I think that’s why the exhaust button is great in theory, but now it seems to only make the car go from slightly above Tesla quiet to Dodge Dart quiet. I realize that’s dramatic but we should have a choice in the matter without having to buy an AMG just because you want to hear your exhaust on a Sunday drive in the country. I’ll end my rant now lol

This is an important point, if you plan on selling your car sometime in the near future the recall has to be completed. A new buyer is not going to accept your car with a yellow check engine light glaring at them.

No check engine light. That's the point of the recall in the first place. If the fuel tank venting malfunctions…then it DOESN'T throw a check engine light which allows the car to pollute more than it should without the driver knowing anything is off.

Logic? Don't know?.

My friend just picked up a 21 LCI….granted, he has the MPE, but it sounds awesome. Doesn't logic dictate that he has the recall programming done? If so, what are we so afraid of???
