Launch control

Has anyone tried launch control yet? I can't seem to figure it out and I've already passed the 1200 mile mark.

Any suggestions?

This didn't work. My LC may not be activated. I also tried couple of other combos.

Bummer. That is the procedure for my X5M. Just used it today.

Warmed up the M. Set the trans to Level 3. Put trans in Manual Mode. Hold the brake pedal down HARD. Accelerator to the floor . Flags appear and the rpm goes to 2850. Let off the brake and hold on.........

Maybe I am not pressing the brakes hard enough. I'll try again tomorrow.

I use it fully off. Not sure if that is necessary.

Also be sure to snap the throttle to the floor fast. Stomp it. Don’t try to ease it down or it will not work.

OnfireX5, I have not launched my X5M yet as i am very nervous about doing it because I hear its bad for the engine. I know, why put launch control in a vehicle if you can't use it. How did the X5M feel with launch control, did it surprise you with the way it took off or were you prepared for it? Thanks

Audi R8 probably has the easiest LC. Dynamic mode. Press the brakes and gas and light off. You can do it over and over and over.

I've used it a bunch. Great fun. It is a nice hard launch (you have to be on a proper straight road/track), but it's not violent. My X5M goes 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds at 3000ft elevation so it's quick, but not crazy fast. Try it, you'll like it !

You can set the M5 up to be easy too.

Program an M button for all the presets.

I use M2 for LC. Just Sport Plus everything, Trans on Level 3 (can even keep it in automatic mode here).

Then hit the M2 button twice, move the shifter to select Manual Mode. Hold the brake and floor the accelerator ! GTG !

Did you try directly after the 1st service ?. My last two M4s had their first services, and i couldnt get "the flag" straight away. It seemed to enable the launch control over the next 50 miles or so, after the first service, and i could get the flag every time after that. I never let it rip though, as im a pussy cat

. Maybe the new M5 is the same ?.

Everything sport plus and transmission in S3 with DSC fully off. Launches off like a rocket.

Okay, DSC off. Everything in sport plus. But: 4WD or 4WD-sport?

I've tried both ways but only timed myself with regular 4wd.

No "real" launch control. ZF transmission only has brake torque launch. It still produces great times (0-60).

Dude, I have driven an X5M and that is the DEFINITION of Crazy Fast! That thing is amazing! Do you wonder why the M5 has AWD now? BMW realized what Audi has known for years. AWD cars are quicker off the line. I waited for years for an AWD M5.

I skipped on buying it since BMW did not want a trailer hitch on it for some reason. I hear the new models allow for one??? I can see having an SUV and not being able to pull a small utility trailer???

How long can you hold it on launch control? When I try it it seems if I wait more than a half. Second after the flags appear it bogs down.. it barely lets me get to 2400 rpm.. what am I doing wrong??

Only one thing I can think off you need to hold the break TIGHT and gas paddle all da way down.
Transmission in S3 and obviously traction off

At the beginning it will go to about 2,5K ( about one second into launch ) if you hold longer like 1/2 second it goes to 3,000 and it's spinning like crazy man.

Mine won’t spin at all? It almost feels like traction control is still on even though it’s off.. if the tires try to break free it cuts power and bogs down.. I’ve tried it a bunch of times with the same results.. I have checked all my settings sport + s3 dsc off manual mode.. can’t figure this out.. ??
