Yes. 4 cats and 2 opf’s still in.
Only removed the rear section. I had the m sports exhaust fitted previously but this is a nice subtle improvement. Sightly deeper and slightly louder in revs and pops are loud and crisp. |

Im comparing it to my M4 Comp with MPE, where i knew instantly where the noises were, at certain rev ranges, but the M5 isnt quite as predictable etc. |

Is it just me but I really don't understand the need for a louder exhaust? With the MSport exhaust I feel BMW has got it just right. I think it sounds beefy even in efficient mode yet not annoyingly droney when cruising. Sport and Sport+ is nice and fruity with pops n bangs when in the mood. The M5 is not an M2/3/4, it should be more civilized, mature, refined brutish power. Reading these forums gives the impression that the MS exhaust sounds absolutely garbage

It is far from garbage as standard. From my point of view, im trying to understand what the differences are without OPFs etc. Im comparing it to an M4 with a pipe, which was plain bonkers really. Ive always loved the sound of Vics car, but they dont run OPFs in America, yet !.Im still slightly disappointed, that i cant get it to reproduce, at will, the tremendous cracks, that only seem to appear once in a while. Im almost sure, these occur, at certain temps, throttle openings, revs, and when the stars all align . This is Vics car |

I had the M4 on a custom tune so it would pop at will at any given time but I think the M5 has sensors which detect heat in the exhaust / engine and hold back the pops until a safe temperature has been reached. I can get the car to pop on on downshift for a say 5 - 6 sets of pops and it will then stop. This tells me that BMW have implemented a safeguard to stop engine exhaust temps getting too high and causing damage. It is slightly louder when at full throttle, I think it sounds really nice. But in my opinion its still too quiet with the OPF and Cats in. The next step for me may be a tune and remove the OPF's by replacing it with Remus midpipe. Its a different route than I took with the M4, with that I left the exhaust totally standard and did a DeCat which sounded great but my friends Remus (catback) always sounded way better. I'll try get some rolling video soon as I have a day free this week and going to wash the car and go get some shots of the new mods. |
