I hadn't seen the pics inside. Driver compartment looks completely in tact/safe. The article doesn't mention seat belt, are we sure he wasn't wearing?

Honest question: who still drives without a seatbelt and do they somehow disable the annoying chime or is it actually worth it to their ego to deal with the chime to not buckle up?

Rear tires are bald AF. Plus he was driving like a maniac on a damp evening.... play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I'm glad he didn't kill his passenger or some innocent bystander.

I think it was. That's when I commented that the car didn't look too bad and I assumed no seatbelt. When will they ever learn?

Yeah, I had someone explain to me a few weeks ago that a wearing a seatbelt goes against his constitutional freedom rights as a US citizen......

Amazes me on how a 24yr kid could even get into a late model M5, abuse it, then destroys it! Entitlement at it's essence!.

The car did its job. When looking at the pic on the link the car looks still strong which shows the build quality. RIP to the young man and prayers for his family...

Yeah maybe his gun in the glovebox was going to safe him. It’s completely mental the US law on safety, some states require the wearing of a helmet from motorcyclists yet others don’t.

The M5 might now have AWD but it’s still a seriously fast machine that will get you into trouble double quick, don’t show it the respect it deserves and it will bit back.

What in the world does this car wreck have to do with a gun being in the glove box?

Exactly. Had he worn a seatbelt he would have walked away. Awful.

Rear tires look like they may have been part of the issue there. Chances are likely it was in RWD and it appears the weather conditions may have been wet.

Not a good combination for any reckless driver.

RIP

Where does it say that he was not wearing his seat belt?

I'm assuming given the impact area and the relatively unscathed driver area, it would logically make sense he got tossed around the cabin. Especially if it was true they had to pry him out of the rear.

I completely agree if he was contained to the driver seat that in no way should be a fatal accident given his age and condition of the wreck.

I don't get it, the cabin looks so intact. I guess the only explanation is no seatbelt.

US citizens have the gun as their personal protection but actually in the car it’s your seatbelt.

It was a bit of sarcasm..... my bad.

Gun control in the tri state surrounding NYC is VERY strict. Not like other parts of the country.
