Market for M Cars
After reading few threads and doing some research, it seems that current market is crazy and certain cars now worth more than MSRP. However, when I visit dealers sites the story is slightly different. Cars are sitting on a lot for over 30 days and most of them advertised at MSRP, or book value. I'm currently in Germany, so I don't have an opportunity to go to a dealership in person, btw. With that said, what is the likelihood that I can sell my M3 MT(no CF seats, or CC brakes)with 4200 miles for $80K? Much appreciated your input.

1. They explain the "market situation" to you and inform you that there is a $5-$10K premium on all M models currently. 2. They tell you that unfortunately that car either just now sold or has been sold a week ago but not updated online. I've had this experience reaching out on roughly 10+ cars over the past month. |

This doesn't (or didn't) apply to just M cars. Dealers would take our deposit then call back next day to say the car was sold. This is why we ended up ordering a 540i, under MSRP for what it's worth. We are in the NE as well. Last edited by G30 B58; 10-28-2021 at 03:03 PM.. |

Also, some of the dealer's website management is outsourced. For example, the BMW dealership in Lubbock, TX has had two M5s on the site for months. They were long sold. So it's not real or up to date.

I have been watching M5's......and there were like 33 new ones on Autotrader maybe 2-3 weeks ago and now there are 21 (and maybe only 3-4 of those have pics attached) meaning only 3-4 of those are actually at the dealer in stock.
There were 2 X5M's that I was looking at 2 weeks ago that are gone now, too. My guess is the dealers know the new cars will be gone here very soon....and then people will start paying more for their used.

It’s madness, if I was in the market right now for a new M5, I would just wait unless I had stupid disposable income and wouldn’t feel bad about paying tens of thousands over what the car is worth.
I got mine at just the right time before all of this happened, but I was recently looking for a 21 Shelby GT500 and it’s such a mess I decided I really don’t need one that badly right now. On the other hand, with people saying this is the last truly ICE M5 gen, it might be worth it to go through the hassle, I don’t know. |

I don't know about getting $80k for your M3, but I wouldn't rule it out either. I ordered my M5C at a local dealer at the beginning of October, and while they wouldn't negotiate, they also didn't add on any markup, so I paid straight MSRP. I guess it really depends on the dealer and where they're located. I'm in Austin, TX, FWIW.

I'm also in the market for a M5C. It's crazy out here in SoCal. Two dealers have said markup is at $15k…
I'm really hoping I get lucky on a used 21 M5C, so it'd be slightly cheaper and have B&W, but man it's tough to find one. Good luck and be patient - the right car will hopefully pop up for you guys 🙏🏻 |

With a little more than 1 year left on my lease, I am already starting to wonder if the used market will still be strong. It might make sense for me to buy it at lease end and sell it myself if the market is still so nuts. I'll definitely be paying attention as the time draws nearer.
