M5 vs M550i Fuel Economy
For some reason, my wife's new-to-her 2019 M5 is getting better gas mileage (> 15mpg) than her old 2018 M550i (~ 14mpg), with the exact same driving conditions (daily commute to work). Has anyone experienced that before?

No.....
I have a 2019 M5 now and had a 2018 M550i. Got like 16.5-18 on the M550.....16 or so on the M5 (that went slightly up after they did the fuel vent recall that quieted the exhaust). Drove both in sport plus all the time.

My 2019 M5, well broke in, over 30k km now, continues to impress me on how it can sip fuel like a miser if you aren’t flogging it. Case in point - completed a round trip last week, majority of time highway 120-130km/h with only light stop and go on occasion. Temp mid teens C. Tires 40 PSI. Two people and approx 100lb cargo. Total was 815 km on the trip meter, computer said 40km left till empty. Just over 70L of fuel on fill up (should have got exact number). That second over-drive makes for some surprising numbers.

M5 2018 non comp.
I did a road trip with my family up to Vermont from NYC, about 300 miles. On the way back we had a truck that I was leading so it was 65-75 the entire way. Was surprised that I made it back with half a tank, so pushing 30mpg. |
