Vehicle key missing

So all of the sudden today I get into the car, try to start it, and it gives me "Vehicle key missing" message. I grabbed the other key fob, and its doing the same thing. The buttons to unlock, lock, trunk, remote start, etc. all still work with both key fobs though. One of the times I tried to start it, it told me to hold the key fob next to the key picture on the steering column but this didn't do anything with either fob. I was only able to get the car to start with my phone as I set it up as a digital key when I got the car. Anyone else have this issue before? TIA

And yes, I replaced the batteries in both key fobs. The issue still persists

Ok, while I wait for the SA to call me back and setup an appointment does anyone have the fuse mappings for an F90? I've scoured the intranets and the latest I can find is up to 2017.

Mine does that every once in while. Very intermittent - comes and goes, but still annoying. The last time it did I held the key up against the right side of the steering column - you'll see a little key logo. that cured it that particular time and it hasn't reoccurred (yet).

Yup. Did that with both key fobs, and neither one of them work. I wish that there was a way to get a hold of the fuse layout for our cars, as I would like to check that before taking it to the dealership. The BMW Genius that I spoke with said that its definitely something going on with the comfort convenience module.

I have had the same problem on occasion. I just hit the unlock button on the key fob (I park my M5 in my garage unlocked) and my car finds the "missing key".

Well I finally was able to drop my car off at the dealership (they had a month wait to get it in for service). Anyway, they couldn't figure out what was going on and decided to reload the software. Well now it gets interesting. Apparently they can't get the software to install past 80% and the cluster is essentially bricked. BMWNA said that the cluster needs to be replaced and the part was ordered this afternoon. Unfortunately I won't know until tomorrow if this part is going to be something that is affected by the "chip shortage".

The only time this happened to me, was my actual car battery was very low and needed replacement in my previous E92.

Well, the car is back and everything is working after they replaced the instrument cluster and reloaded the software. The engineer in me wants to know what actually happened though. I guess that I need to get used to the fact that dealership mechanics are no longer mechanics and are more less just parts replacement specialists. Below is the work order for those interested.
