Bowers and Wilkins no longer an option on BMWUsa configurator?

Hi all,

I spec'd my 2022 M5 Comp with bowers and Wilkins but i have not received a production number yet or any details of the car being produced. I was playing around on BMW USA website and realized you cannot option on B&W at the moment. Any word if they have removed it as an option?

Yes, they don't have parts/chips for B&W.

BMW has removed it as an option across their lineup of vehicles. My coworker is trying to order a Gran Coupe M8 Comp with the B&W stereo and he has been told by the dealership it has been removed and when it will be brought back is unknown.

I've been waiting for an allocation for my second M5C, but no B&W is probably going to be a deal breaker. I'll probably keep my ride and hope the next hybrid model isn't an abomination.

If you're getting a second M5C then I know I made the right choice haha. I have a feeling the hybrid will make a lot more power but sound horrible & look even worse. Just my opinion though.

Also, B&W is really that good that you're thinking of not getting the car entirely?

Jimmy, I had a 2019 M5 Competition and the ride quality of the 2022 M5 is so much better I would get the new car, even without the upgraded stereo. The new car is faster also.

B&W is awful but it's less awful than the HK.

I'll put the money into aftermarket exhaust, then the stereo never needs to be on

I have the BW but it’s really not the best. I never even listen to the radio in this car. I’d save the money for an exhaust. The only cool thing about it is the way it lights up at night, but if that’s $3,500 cool is up to you.

Could definitely do without it. I was even thinking the other day about potentially removing it and adding on more CF instead. BMW has made that decision for me and I think it's for the best. Carbon fiber & aftermarket exhaust for the win.

They do make the interior look cool at night though but the ambient lighting itself is more than enough right?

For $3,500 you could have a really nice, border line HiFi system installed. I like the B&W, but if HiFi audio is what you are after, $3,500 is a decent budget and should get you close.

The ambient light is great. Not a ton of color choices like Mercedes but still plenty. The odd thing is none of them seem super bright except blue. The other ones still look really good, but for some reason it seems like the blue option is twice as bright as any of the other color choices

It was the same situation with the ambient lighting on my Audi S5. I think they are the same level of brightness however our eyes are more sensitive to blue light hence we perceive it to be brighter. I think red ambient lighting is so cool, I wish that was perceived to be brighter

That makes a lot more sense. My wife was playing around with the settings and selected bronze which I would have never picked, and it actually looks really cool, so I’ve been riding around with that for a couple weeks

In my 16' x6 bang & olufsen it's playing much better than b&w in my new to me f90. Even my wife noticed this. The only reason for b&w it's that is looking much better in the night period of time.

Lol, I'm no audiophile but the lights in the speaker grill was why I ordered the B&W. That's the second thing people notice when they get in my car at nighttime. First being the M5 logo on the headrests.

Just got a call from my CA and he confirmed my 22 m5 comp will not be built with the B&W audio. Kind of bummed about it since I have it on my 19 now and I really like the clarity and appearance of the audio system. So to make me feel better about not getting the B&W I had my CA add on the carbon ceramic brakes. Hopefully that makes up for not having the B&W

The B&W in this model is a pretty big disappointment outside of the lights in the speakers. I have had a Trackhawk and a Ram 1500 that had stock stereos that were light years better than the B&W. If i were to order this car again, I'd skip the B&W and take the $4k to a good installer and let them have at the HK and be in a much better place. The highs and mids are great on the B&W. As it stands I'm looking to add a subwoofer to balance it out. It's just disappointing that BMW doesn't give you a better subwoofer system with the B&W. I tend to spend alot of money on upgrading stereo systems, especially in my daily drivers so take my opinion for what it's worth. The B&W is nowhere near a $4k upgrade and you can do far better with a good installer in the aftermarket.
