Dam I hate you 😀
We have nothing like the scenery you have , here in England . Once travel is back on and I can find a M5 to hire, I'd love to do that sort of trip. In the mean time , do keep up the road trip logs . |

AMAZING! I respect and admire the dedication. Coincidentally I just bought my first dedicated camera (that's not a smartphone). I hope to use in a same fashion. Just Inspiring!

As a Dutchman from the low and flat countries, I have to admit this the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen.
You Americans, I envy you for this unreal beautiful country you live in. Please do take care of it. |

This is the best way to use a M5, take it out for a nice road trip- knowing your car can beat 99.99% of the cars on the road. But you would not do that. Unlike common belief we are responsible drivers.

Hello from the M4 forum. A friend sent me this thread. I must say, thank you for taking the time and effort to post this. Breathtaking pictures and definitely a lot of nostalgia for me.
I took my M4 from CA to MN and back and I had one of the best times of my life! Utah was absolutely stunning and Colorado was insane. The scenery, people, cultures, and life in those different cities really make the trip worth it. The mountains make you stare at them in awe and the small rural towns open your mind up (being from Los Angeles). Taking the M4 was probably the best thing on the trip. People loved the car on the way as I was able to share the love with others. It handled extremely well on the roads and was actually pretty comfortable. I’ve done multiple cross country trips and so far the M4 has been the best road trip car far; I can’t imagine an M5. Thanks again for sharing as I hope to do more of these trips soon! |

Amazing journey, write-up, and stunning photographs.
Tiff Needell once said of the M5 (the E60 at the time) that an M5 "should be good enough to carry 4 people and their luggage, in comfort, [from Britain] all the way to the south of France. And at the same time be able to live with a supercar on the track." It seems, then, that despite the many changes through the generations, that the M5 of the current era, the F90, still gets the job done.

Unlike what BMW thinks, the appeal of an M5 is to be comfortable at speed over long distances. I put 20k on my E39 M5 with ease in a year. I'd probably do even more in a F90 lol.

Love it! You have actually inspired me to check out UT. A fun drive of mine was from Reno to SF with time spent in Lake Tahoe. Your pictures make me want to drive the desert

Wow. This has been a truly humbling experience. I'm going to do a group thank you here right now for all the kind words and replies. It was a lot of fun putting this together, but it kept getting longer and longer. So with much trepidation, I finally hit Submit. Glad I could offer some inspiration for others to take a trip.
Alas, some bittersweet news. I no longer have the Donington. Some ticky tacky issues were bugging me and I went and test drove a 2021 LCI M5 Comp. I now have this at home, and it is truly spectacular. Have a safe New Year everyone. Can't wait to get back on the road again in 2021. |

This shows that the best bits of the USA rarely seem to be mentioned in the media. You can't beat a good road trip and this one was epic!
