Value & quality.
My 528i is fully optioned (far as I know). It still doesn't entirely compare to the most basic e60 M5.

There are also levels to things. Why make another level that's like an inch higher than the previous? Virtually no point. Because Mercedes does this crap? Shouldn't matter to BMW what Mercedes does.

Honestly, I think that they're just appealing to the smartphone I.e. "latest & greatest" market...

That’s what we generally see by extending the power 20-25hp at the last 1000 or so rpm at the strip. HP area under the curve accelerates the car. If that 20-25 had been from 3000 to 7000......it would have added torque.....and the ET difference would have been interesting.

A simple tune on the standard M5 will put it at or above the same level as the CP too. This “bump” in HP on the CP is nothing but a minor tune, nothing more.

Ya I agree .. my dealer told me a few months ago when it was my turn to put order in for the f90 that instead of waiting for the cp version to just get the dinan tune authorized by Bmw which would have better specs than the cp for little extra money.. I almost went with that but kind of pointless on a lease since I plan to just keep switching every 3 years

Frank felt that he needed to offer a "S" variant that could compete with the E63S and since Mercedes offers their S immediately at the same time as the normal E63, he felt that there should be a Competition variant of the M5 immediately after the release of the M5. He said he hopes this clears things up and media are now comparing the M5 to the E63 and the M5 Competition to the E63S. #smartmove

Might sound weird but I wish the badging was much much more subtle. They don't need to slap competiton badges all over it. Let the trained eye be able to pick them out.

This has been talked about before, it is because of e-parking brakes.

Yes it appears so, seems very strange to prioritise the e-brake over having proper rear brakes!

I agree with everything you said. However, I don't agree with their naming system. They make it seem as if the M2/M5 competition are track oriented versions of the base cars when the M line in general should already be that. For example, Mercedes simply adds an S to the end of their higher AMG trim (probably for sport) and Audi adds an R, but adds significant upgrades to the S line.

M5 Competition

Just got delivery of F90 M5. I would have definitely gone with the CP, but dealer said no info on timing...Anyway, with only 17hp extra I highly doubt it will beat C&D 2.8 0-60 time. Very happy with fastest sedan on market right now. It is a Lambo with 5 seats and a trunk...

It's not standard because a lot of people don't want ccb. They are prone to heat cracking after just 1 or 2 track days. They have issues with noise and scratching. And they cost like 15k or more to get replaced.

Most Porsche and corvette people swap theirs out for iron brakes. That's why Porsche is releasing a new type of ceramic brake in the cayenne to hopefully remedy some of these issues.

And it's not even like ccb are vastly superior to iron to warrant a massive price and massive cost to replace.
mine crack and I dint have to take it on track days. I've been on two track days so the good thing is I know the limits of my brakes. yes most don th eant them but they do work. I've got 122k ok n my 13 m5 and never had any noises from them.
