I wanted to ask someone about that. ShawnHayes tracks and has track wheels so he is swapping regularly. Curious what he thinks.
I just swap twice a year (fall and spring) unless I am doing work (installed springs this year so 3x in 2022). I have studs, which reduces the risk of dropping h the wheel on the brake shield and rotor. You can also buy long screw in hangers and 2 would let you slide the wheel on. A pebble or debris that gets between the rotor and pad could also cause damage. But I doubt that is common. We have a beach house and though I don’t drive on the beach there is sand all over the place that gets blown around and kicked up by cars. Not sure if sand has ever caused problems with CCBs. |

I opted for the CCBs on my build after being talked into them by Greer, lol, and honestly I don't regret them for a second. They absolutely bite harder and faster than any metal brake system I've ever driven before. As much as I'd like to do track days, I simply don't have the time, so I suspect my CCBs will last for the life of the car while I own it since I'm all street so far.

I have owned 2 F90 M5's with and without CCB's and I can say the stopping power and overall performance is much better with the ceramics.

Also a Google search about CCBs vs steel will answer a lot of your questions. Nothing really unique about bmw in this field. Besides them squealing like champs. CCBs will perform much better on a track than steel. But will also reduce the life of them. Impossible to say exactly how much but without track sessions you can expect 100k out of the rotors. 50-70k out of the pads under normal driving. They won’t stop you that much better than steel rotors. But they will handle the fade much much better.

Gold colored brakes! Low brake dust. That's why I ordered them for my wife's new skyscraper grey/blk car that is coming to us in about 2 mos from Germany. SO EXCITED!!!! Them there is gold in there brakes.... that's why we ordered them. They look cool and different and are a conversation piece, that's all.

I searched Car and Driver road tests and while every tester likes CCBs, the 70-0 stopping distances did not show any consistent gains. The distances varied even among CCB tests over the years so it is hard to nail down any improvement that is just a few feet. One test commented that the CCBs took 5’ more than the magazine’s last steel brake test.
I think track driving, which probably less than 1% of M5 owners do, would show measurable gains. Probably slight initially, but drive hard enough long enough and the steel brakes will heat up and fade before the CCBs. Again, nothing anyone will see in their street driving. Worth the money is relative. $8k means more to some than others, and even assuming we all have it to spare, what we choose to spend it on varies. Less dust, less squeal, less weight are all reasons, as is the lifestyle statement that one has the highest performance brake option. |

Don’t thread jack. This is not M5 vs 550i comparison post. Also, M5 is a different animal, I suggest you get that unless of course financials are a problem.

my vote goes towards carbon ceramics. I will not spec a car without them. I have even tracked my gt4 with carbon ceramics and have held up very well. For track purposes however if I do more than 3-4 a year I'll replace with steelies considering I plan on keeping my car long term.

There are so many posts on this same topic and you are spot on: I will never own an M5 without Carbon Ceramic Brakes.

My 2023 will have CCBs as well. It wasn't even a consideration to go with steels when spec'ing it out.

My 2016 M4 had CCBs - squealed constantly. My 2019 M5 had CCBs - squealed constantly. My 2022 M5 CS has CCB's - didn't squeal at first, but now does occasionally. Not as much as my M4/M5. Seems to be getting worse. My dad had a 2016 F10 M5 with CCBs and they squealed constantly. In short, as AHall said above, there's no guarantee they won't. |

You guys are killing me. We ordered Carbon Ceramic Brakes since they produce much less dust and look good. If they constantly squeal my wife is going to be pissed. It's her car. Ughhh.... Can the dealership "fix" this if she hard brakes a lot and they still squeal?

We like them better for our cars because of dust and lack of appreciable wear and tear. But let’s not get confused they don’t really see “significant” improvement unless on the track. But that dust is a B and they are gorgeous compared to rusty iron especially after a wash or rain storm!

Less brake dust is the only reason I’d opt for them. The standard steels are plenty good unless you track
