My 2 Cents...
I have a Pre-facelift E63s and have had many other AMG's over the past few years. From the small C63s to the over-the-top G63, I can for sure say that they are dramatic in their own way. The E63s seems to be the perfect blend of drama and comfort from the Mercedes cars while not being too overpriced. While I feel that the GT63s is the better car when it comes to dynamics and looks, I feel that the asking price doesn't justify it.
Going back to the main question, it honestly comes down to preference. Both brands have pros and cons to them, and when it comes to performance or comfort, the '21 version of both will be so similar that I don't feel like you could go wrong with either. I have an order in for a '21 M5 but that won't make my E63s any less valuable. I like both cars and their quirks, but I don't believe either one is a bad option. Just go with your gut and buy what you like. From what they offer, you'll get your bang for your buck regardless of choice. I know this doesn't help much, but I hope this provides some insight, especially coming from someone who's always been an AMG guy

Thanks again everybody for the responses. I brought my X5M in for service today and they had an M5 floor model. I like the way it looked even though it was white(alpine) I have Mineral White X5M, no more white ones for me. I turned on the lights which were actually nice both front and back. It was comfortable inside, but it was a stripped model, no full leather. The seats were comfortable, plenty of head room but the salesman didn't come in til 9:30 so didn't drive it. But I will. Will update.

i'm pretty sure the e63s has the better exhaust, is missing the giant dildo of a shifter in the center, and they are within 0.1-0.2s from each other depending on launch/conditions when it comes to pretty much all speed benchmarks i mean, they both have AWD + twin turbo v8s pushing nearly equal power while nearly weighing the same. how can either one blow anything? |

In the battle of the M5 vs E63S, winning by a car length or so means the loser got blown away. After all, we are talking here in a bmw forum, they will not let other brands gain any bragging rights. Just to remind everyone that the E63S came with only 4litre engine vs BMW 4.4litre.

I just traded in an 2018 e63s in on the M5 Competition. The MB dealer was trying to get me to trade my e63s in on a new 2020 e63s. They came off $18k from list. This was the first MB that I had owned. The car was very fast, 2.81 0-60. It also was A much firmer ride. I enjoyed the car but have been a long time previous M5 owner, 9 m5’s since 2001. I only have 500 miles on my new 5 and the Mercedes definitely felt faster and rawer. Just wanted a change.

Mercedes claimed 3.3-3.4, car and driver and many other outlets got 3-3.1 with rollout. Which is a very respectable number, but the 2018 BMW M5 (non competition) got 2.8 0-60 with car and driver for an apples to apples comparison. While it may feel or be raw-er (never drove it as I couldn't stand the newer Mercedes, every trim piece creaks, trust me, push on your dash trim, guaranteed), the numbers don't lie, F90 M5 is the king of luxo-barges |

I faced the same dilemma and came to similar conclusions others have in here, the GT63s > E63s but not worth the price difference, to me.
I have a 21M5C on order. |

Thanks guys for all the posts. My e63s had a Kleeman piggyback on it. The 2.81, 0-60 was displayed on my in car performance program. It also registered a 59.2 mph in 100 ft, which is quite quick. It’s just a rawer feeling car. I only have 600 miles on my car and maybe it’s just not broken in yet. I’ve never subscribed to the soft break in guide that BMW recommends, however I don’t beat on it very aggressively. I like the driving experience that BMW offers. The BMW feels and looks like a much more expensive car, with driving feedback, appearance and interior appointments. I’m happy with the car, just factory hp has never done it for me. Could be that the racechip is defective as mentioned. I’ve notified their helpline.

I would suggest you take a look at the E63S, modern AMGs are very good drivers' cars too though some might disagree, would be good to try out a demo from a dealer and see how you like the car and request for more time behind the wheel. From a consumer standpoint, both cars are pretty closely matched though AMGs usually do cost abit more than an equivalent M Model, at least in Asia this is how they are priced. The M5C is a very capable car, a super sedan I would call it when you really get on it. Cheers and do let us know your decision, some brand diversity is good for one's garage if one could comfortably afford it which you are in this position now. Cheers!

Indeed very odd results. A racechip f90 m5 is like doing a stage 1. Also, stock to stock and m5CP is a significantly faster car than the e63s even though it may not feel that way.. |

I just ordered a 2021 E63 wagon to replace our 2014 wagon. The changes to the E63 look great. I love the new grille. The new steering wheel is a work of art. 53s are on dealer lots now - so you can get a sense of what the 63 will look like.

I'm also looking at them now and then for kicks, and resale values are pretty strong. May even get one to replace the F80 since we're planning to get a Newfoundland pup for our 2yo. Need that big boot! Short of the wagon, I would take the F90 any day, but that's just me

I saw my first RS6 a few weeks ago and talked to the owner, and as beautiful as that car is, he's already tried drifting it and it showcased typical Audi understeer, and the interior was very greasy with all the fingerprints, it sure is pretty though. Many reviews have been glowing about the ride improvements, and the E63 Wagon was just included with the rest of the E-Class in Car of the Year so it's definitely a top pick in its class. MotorTrend is also writing up a comparison with the E63, RS6 and Panny ST Turbo that should eventually come out, super excited to read about that one. |

Yeah, we're basically getting him a pony lol. Things are gigantic. The breeder we're talking to has an old Dodge minivan, and even with the rear seats folded, one of the adult Newfies in the back is a bit tight... We were thinking of buying out my wife's Macan, but she loves wagons too, and it's probably just not big enough for a full grown Newfie, so no we're looking at wagons for her too. Would be great to have two longroofs in the garage!

They are not selling well at all and the latest rumor I heard was that they were going to be order only with the facelift onwards. To be fair even with a great discount, the Panamera is still more than a m5 or rs6 so it may not matter at the end of the day. I just got out of a '19 Panamera GTS sedan (if you can even call it that) and I will say that it does handle like a dream and is a lot of fun to drive but some of the shortcomings for the money is frustrating. |
