2023 Allocation

After parting ways with my E60 back in 2018 due to hit&run and driving a Nissan GTR for a year (fast altima), I have decided to once again hop in the M5. I have been on the waitlist with Illinois dealer since March for a 2023 F90 M5. I finally got my allocation and production number. Few options that were not available were the upgraded speakers (forgot the name), carbon fiber roof and option 32x - Delete hands-free tailgate operation which costs a $100. I was promised late September delivery.

EDIT - CF roof is available

Exterior - Alpine White
Interior - Silverstone Full Merino Leather

UPDATES
Per BMW Genius - production time is June 23rd to July 7th
June 15 - Scheduled for Production
June 23 - Production Begins
June 24 to July 5 - Exterior Body Assembly Begins
July 6 - Paint Booth
July 7 - Entering Assembly Line, Assembly in Progress
July 8 - Quality Check, Final Assembly, Ready for Transport, Awaiting Carrier Assignment
July 12 - Dispatched from Factory
July 14 - At The Port
July 29 - In Transit
August 16 - At the port - name of ship is Hawaiian Highway, going to Baltimore
August 19 - In transit
August 23 - At Dealer
August 27 - Home

Awesome, congratulations! I didn't know that the MY23 do not come with the cf roof. That kind of sucks.

Oh wow that's news to me about CF roof — you might want to keep checking on that before your car starts production. So out of an E60 in 2018.. GTR for 1.5 years .. We got like 1-5-2 years of missing time here. What else were you driving? Also congrats!

Thank you thank you! The 1-5-2 years I have been driving a 17 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel as a work truck (150k miles and not a problem) and wife’s GLA45 AMG, our coast to coast road trip car. I think I got a v8 fever
I’ll follow up on the CF roof, but as of yesterday that option was not available. They are giving out moonroofs instead.

"Few options that were not available…carbon fiber roof…"

I always knew they were sneaking chips into the CF roof…

Congratulations!

I'm highly suspect of the carbon fiber roof comment made. For one, it's not an "option" as it comes standard on every F90 that has rolled off the factory floor. Now a sunroof which replaces the carbon fiber roof -- that IS an option.

You’re correct. I hopped on a call with a GSM and moonroof is still an option where CF roof is standard. My CA made a mistake, referring to 2022 end of year production models which only came with moonroofs. This almost cost me the lower center of gravity.

Personally, the 2022 F90 that's currently being built as we speak is my DD and I wanted the moonroof hands down for the creature comfort bits (but the alternative for my build was a standard painted roof - not CF - we triple checked this), but I also couldn't option the Bowers & Wilkins audio, which was a real bummer. Planning on DIY swapping out the B&W bits from a salvage M550 I found totaled out from hail damage. I also got the 100$ credit for the manual tailgate, so I guess pretty similar cuts overall.

I don't think the B&W cut is just parts - it's not even on the MY23 guide for the F90, yet it's available on both the M850/M8? I'm feeling like there's some engineering/technical reason that we haven't been told, but there's more to this story.

Wow, so glad to hear they will be keeping the carbon fiber roof.

I would confirm with the dealer but looks like your 2022 order might actually be 2023.

It's odd, I thought so too but it literally flipped into Production Begins on Monday, and if you see the above SS, it's designated as a "2022 M5 Sedan." Let's see. I'm cool with a 23!

Do you happen to know how long have you been sitting at "scheduled for production" on the website?

Sick timeline to go from order received to production begins. Definitely one of the fastest we've seen on here as of recent. Congratulations!

The B&W is only cut from the USA, UK still has it on the configurator and so do all the European countries and even Canada. So do with that info what you will. I wouldn't take delivery with a manual tailgate that is sooo bs lol

Lol. Im living manual tailgate life now and had a 2021 G30 with automatic right before it. It's really not that bad.. I mean it's only manual for closing. If I were some kind of sissy who couldn't close my trunk it'd be a deal breaker lol.. otherwise tbh it's really not something I even think about now. 😂

Hah - that definitely irks me even more, but all is well. I'll just have to get my hands dirty learning how to get these door cards off without breaking those new clips. No harm, no foul.

Btw, to be clear from my end since I misspoke earlier - it's just the hands free tailgate operation that's gone manual for me and not the whole tailgate - it's still a power tailgate from the paperwork, but just no auto kick to open/close sensor (which tbh has only worked 25% of the time for me on my past 3 BMWs, so I wasn't too huge on it anyways).

(Also OP, I'm sorry for thread hijacking; I'll split off my build into another thread once I have a meaningful update and stop spamming yours)

Oh in that case it's not too bad! Also don't worry about the clips, go buy a bag for like 10$ online and just yank the panel off and if they break they break lol not worth trying to save them just to break them anyway.

No offense taken. I have seen people sit at “scheduled for production” for months before being moved to “production begins”. I will track my progress and come back with updates.

I have been at port for just over 3 weeks waiting on a ship. Genius line has no idea and dealer has no idea when it will move.

I also have the remote engine start on my 2022 that's arriving soon, don't have that on my 2019 M5 Comp. Wonder if that changes the key?
