Fantasic Fuel Economy and Nav
Just wanted to provide an update for 528i owners. The fuel economy is great! I just averaged 35-40mpg on a 6 hour trip. Went total of 375 miles and used a little over 1/2 tank of gas. This car is definitely up there with any diesel in terms of fuel economy. And it's not even a hybrid. The 8-speed transmission and brake regeneration really do make a difference. I also have a truck which would have used an entire tank of gas for a similar trip. Even my previous E46 M3 would have used almost an entire tank of gas on this same trip.
In regards to Nav, I posted a complaint when I first got the car. However, now having been on a few trips using the Nav, it truly is a good system. I would say that it is definitely comparable to my Tom Tom. The My Info system through Google is a great feature that I use a lot. The only thing is that the Google directions can be slightly different than the BMW directions, but it gets your very close to the destination. Overall, I am more and more impressed with the 528i every time I drive it. |

Feul consumption on 523i. I also did a long trip over the weekend of about 1200 kilometres and got an average consumption of 12.5 kilometres per litre with a average speed over the distance of 106 km/h. My cruising speed on the highways was set to 130km/h with the speed control. The car was also fully loaded. Two adults, 2 children and the luggage compartment was full. The 8 speed sports auto is magic.

Conversion for us US mgp folks
1 kilometer/liter = 2.35214583 miles/U.S. gallon according to Google converts to 29.4 miles/U.S. gallon (mpg). At an average speed of 70 mph, that is very good mileage for a car with the weight and size of a 523. Must be the 8 speed auto that does the trick.

I think it is the 8 speed auto plus the efficient dynamic system that is doing the trick

It's been announced that an F10 diesel will eventully arrive in the US and "J Spira" has told me that a BMW executive told him it will arrive next year.Hopefully it will be the 6 rather than a 4 because, given that I can easily get 42 mpg at 65 mph in my "d" a 6 cylinder F10 with an 8 speed should do even better. And you'd get all that beautiful torque in the bargain.

Any general comments on the ride and handling of 528i with no sports package? tight? like a boat? Body roll? please describe any comments. Would it be fair to ask how it compares to driving a 335? I am in iraq and cannot go for a test drive.

The fuel economy with adaptive drive on my 550i is 25.5 mpg with highway driving and my car has only 1800 miles on it so the mileage will get better.
