Changing Caliper Color

Well, 6 months in and I’m still “wishing” they were black. Everyone else seems to love the red, but I feel black would just complete my murder look (BSM, dark tint, black wheels, black painted rotors, black/cf rounders, etc).

I’ve been quoted $1,000 for powder coating. Plus I would need to score new stickers.

Has anyone wrapped or powder coated theirs? Just curious pricing, durability, resale, trade in, etc. open to pro and anti comments on my thoughts as well!

It looks like you are into the murdered out black look, so complete the job by changing the caliper color to black. I would look into wrapping with vinyl wrap. Will retain more heat but that does not matter where looks are the goal instead of performance.

I think Brembo says not to powdercoat for heat management purposes. A lot of people do it anyway and don’t report and don’t report any problems and you are doing this for looks not performance.

You could also search for a shop that paints instead of powdercoats. They will spray high temp paint and cure it just like Brembo. Prep is the most important part of the job - paint does not stick to glossy surfaces for any type of painting. The calipers have to be blasted or carefully sanded.

I used a brush on 2 part epoxy to paint a set of Stoptech 6 piston calipers that I was rebuilding with new pistons, seals and hardware. Definitely not as smooth and even a finish as a pro, but also not noticeable unless inspecting close up. I found aftermarket replacement decals online. I think you are looking for perfection so I would not recommend this for you.

First off, your car looks amazing, and as I have stated before, you’ve got the most beautiful front end on here.

I’m completely murdered out as well as I’m sure you know. I originally spec-ed my order with red calipers (which many of my other cars have had) but ended up with black thanks to some good advice from micvite. The F90 rear caliper is just too puny to be red. If there is just one thing I would did for a pop of color on a murdered car, it would be red calipers. But I still think black would look so good on your car.

I’ve had calipers painted on other cars before, and have typically paid around $1000 as well for a “best of the best” job. You can definitely get this done cheaper, but that’s the going rate for a good job using proper prep and materials as mentioned by pbonsalb. I agree with his view on the issue.

I say go for it!

EDIT — Voice to text errors fixed.
