PDC sensors using laser? My radar is going beserk

Anyone know if the F90 is using laser for any of its sensors? I'm not sure if its PDC, lane departure, adaptive cruise control, or any of the other dozens of sensors used for the active systems, but, my Escort 9500ix laser sensor is basically active almost the entire time.

My F10 had no issues, but immediately when I turned it on with my F90 it was going off continually. So much so that I had to stop using it because it was basically always activated.

It's the gesture control. If it's a feature you don't plan to use most people are putting black electrical tape over the sensors in the overhead console which cures the false laser issue.

This makes a ton of sense. Can you deactivate the gestures in iDrive? I was able to deactivate the laser band on the radar detector since the laser signal means you're already screwed.

You can, but it just stops gensture control from responding- it doesn’t disable the sensors. I just put a small square of electrical tape over the rear laser sensor on my V1 which cured the problem as well. Like you said, once the laser detector goes off you’re nailed already anyway (especially from the rear!).

By the way, I saw you're review thread on the main page. Great color choice! I'm loving the Donington more every day. Goes so well with the Competition black trim and the CF roof.

F90 BMW False LASER alerts

I just picked up my new F90 Comp and had the same problem. The gesture control camera uses laser to sense your hand motions. You can tape over the gesture control camera, tape the rear laser camera on your radar detector, or turn off the laser detector on your radar detector.

I use a Valentine One.

I typed this with the above title to help those searching on google. I know that I did not help anyone already on this thread at all.

I did as well and am very happy with it so far. Make sure you read the reviews and how to set it up properly. Having it configured properly significantly reduced the false alarms. I love how you can set it to be silent if you are driving below a set speed. Cool feature.
