Jury is still out—anyone feel this?

So the first 300 miles of M5C with snow tires has happened. The car feels a bit soft, as if tires are under inflated ( they're not) and lacks road feel. It may be that I'm accustomed to the visceral feel of the GTR and GT3. It certainly moves when asked but something is missing. Will certainly give it a chance in summer tires before hitting swap-a-lease but anyone else feel this?

I think road feel is appropriate for what it is, but I feel a huge difference between summer and winter tires in all my cars, m5c included. The ride is always softer and floaty. The cars you are comparing the m5 too are purpose built sports cars and I don't think the m5 will replicate their feel.

I think you need to drive the car on summer tires with a minimum of 500 to 1000 miles on them, before passing judgement on the M5's driving characteristics.

Besides the tires I think the strengths of this engine is after 200km/h. From 200km/h-300km/h the S63 platform is very strong.

I’m on summer tyres. After a 911, the steering doesn’t have much feel but the car isn’t soft. If anything, I’m finding my M5C too firm. I’m getting plenty of complaints from my better half on bumpy roads. It’s dynamite through the twisties though.

I wonder how many people drive the Base model before ordering the M5C?

In practical terms, what level of performance is required to satisfy the typical M driver under most conditions, other than a race track?

I went with the Base both for aesthetic reasons, and because the level of performance was more than adequate for the roads I drive on. I'm not suggesting that the Competition isn't the right car for some people, but rather that a drive in the Base might be in order for those on the fence and undecided.

I drove the M5 with 20" Michelin PA4 and the PS4. First of all the winter tires need about 300-500kms before they are broken in. My car had a very soft feeling and moved around during braking until I reached that mileage. Second the winter tires have a completely different feeling compared to the PS4.

What are you running for the M settings (steering, suspension, etc..)? I find Comfort settings to be way too soft/disconnected for me. But put it in Sport+,Sport,Sport+ and it feels great! Although probably not 911 level..

This is a good point— got it in sport but not max settings yet, maybe I'm babying too much during this break in period—- and no doubt these sotto zeros have something to do with it. Was just surprised that it lacked much road feel—I'm used to feeling everything, even with snows, in GTR

I bought a 2015 GTR new and drove it for a few winters on snows in the PNW, and have also driven a couple of 911 Turbos year round. This is my first winter with the M5 and I really like the car. It is a very different beast than the GTR and GT3 though. I took my modified 88 911 Turbo out yesterday for a fun, short drive in 20 degree weather and got the best of both worlds. I wouldn't expect the M5 to fill the void of those looking for a die hard sports car. It does a pretty good approximation though.

Then you know what I'm feeling or lack there of so far. I took out the GTR today (2017) and felt what I'm missing in the M5. My old e92 M3 and this GTR have the feedback that makes the ride amazing. But as noted, will wait till summer tires have a chance. Unfortunately in my climate it's a long way away....even watching the last mission Impossible to get psyched about this car. Yeah, it's not a real problem

It definitely won't feel like a GTR or GT3. Not even close. It's a good thing because it's a luxury sport sedan not a sports car.

Hopefully not another car with the shipping blocks in there still. Complaints sound similar to the others who had the blocks left in there

My view of the M cars is performance over luxury— hence the M5 is one of several on the cover of R&T this month joining the gt3RS, Ferrari, mclaren, etc. The 750i is a luxury car. My M3 was performance over luxury. I'm sure this car will not disappoint on the track and I look forward to that, but at the moment I scratch my head over the soft and luxurious feel. Didn't drive an M5 before getting it and that's my bad not the car's. Plus guys, I do not consider this observation as a problem— no one in their right mind sees driving this car as a problem ( worried I'll get soft is all😬&#128077
