Yes, I confirmed this myself and was very please as I don't need to do any more messing around to find a switch power source LOL.

Additional Power Source?

Can anyone please check to see if there is a power source (cigarette lighter plug) underneath the glove compartment right by the central console? I have that in my M4 and I use it to power the radar detector routing the power cable through the A pillar and headliner to the radar location by the rear view mirror.

I looked at a regular 5 Series at the dealer and there is a cavity in that area for the power source, but there was none installed. My guess is that it is an option that comes with one of the packages.

Thanks in advance!

Juan

Nope, nothing there.

I did that in my M2, but have not been able to find the information on which wires to tap into in the M5... I've read a lot of posts of people asking, but no definite information yet.

Still waiting for my car but I plan on using the uniden R3 (mirror tap) and combining it with waze on screen. Hopefully they'll come out with arrows on their units by then. Heard it's being worked on.

I just took delivery today. I dropped off my Escort 360c and the cord yesterday, hoping their service techs could wire it to the mirror. No luck; the CA said the service guy couldn't even figure how to take off the plastic housing behind the mirror. With BMW removing the passenger footwell 12V receptacle on the M5, that leaves scant options for powering a radar. I'm not particularly happy about that, but... I love this freakin' car!

That's disappointing. I've been waiting for my 1,200 mile service to see if the tech knows how to access the mirror area. Another member had his radar tapped into the mirror wiring harness (by the service tech at his dealership) so there is a switched 12v wire in there, we just need to figure out how to get the cover off!

Well, I found an acceptable if imperfect work-around. Using a 12 foot extension that connects the Escort 360c to a cigarette lighter type 12 V outlet, I ran the cord from where the windshield meets the headliner across to the A pillar, down the passenger A pillar, down under and across (from right to left) in the passenger footwell, and then along and under the trim piece for the center console to the rear seat 12 V outlet in the center of the control box between the front two seats. The detector does receive power after the vehicle shuts down for about 20 minutes, but the current draw is miniscule. Cosmetically it is invisible except where the wires goes from the detector into the headliner and where the DC adapter plugs in. Not a bad compromise, in my opinion.

There is a fuse box behind the glove box for accessories.... not sure why most people don't just run the line through there.... that is the safest way to do and wires are hidden behind pillars and headliners.... the fuse box diagram is actually located in the other fuse box in truck....

Which fuse did you use, and does the detector power down when the car does?

I did it this way and used fuse F59 as it was empty. Powers down at about the 6 minute mark
