Why? Lot's of expensive cars are winter driven. I'd winter drive my R8, too. I can't imagine spending 140k CAD on that car and then letting it sit in the garage 7 months of the year.

only thing I would be worried about in an R8 would be ground clearance, you would be snowplowing the roads for people on a bad day.

Had no issues with my 323i in this past Ontario winter with all-seasons. Drove a 335i coupe with winter tires (my buddies) on a ski trip and it handled amazing. Like everyone says, easy on the gas to start, and then you can go through it all. The BMW packages have a H rating, so when the snow eases up, you can still move at a great speed.

I'm sure a 1 series will be a great winter car. I'm willing to bet if someone wanted to be "cheap" they could even get by on all season tires in some parts of Canada, although I wouldn't recommend it for obvious reasons.

well, at their techincal module I almost hit the cones and took it out of the track when the DTC was supposed to save me... I really floored it and drive a car with DTC, so I know how to fool it... plus I forgot it was rear wheel drice (so I missed the silica)
anyways, with winter tyres on, it will be alright provided you don't do stupid stuff
