Winter tire recommendation...
Hello,
I searched here and just wanted to get a confirmation from this group. I purchased 706m 20" wheels to use for winter. At the same time was looking at the winter tire options. For winter, narrower the tire, the better… not interested in RTFs... at the same time, I wanted to go with square setup with 9.5/10.5" wheels. OE tires looks somewhat stretched on the rear wheel so going with 275 tire on rear wheel will look off... below are 285mm square setup tire options... Pirelli’s looks like a proven choice based on F90 forum and Tirerack reviews… Pilots seem to be overpriced while 285s are on backorder @ $470 a tire … anyone has experience with Vredestein (275s only size available) as Tirerack has limited number of reviews? Thank you for the feedback on any of my points and questions. Last edited by ellisina4; 10-04-2021 at 05:03 PM.. |

I used the Vredestein WinterTrac Pros on my 2020 X3MC for a winter and was very happy with the performance in fresh and packed snow. We don't generally get a lot of snow in rural central Missouri and I didn't have any traction problems during winter conditions. The downside for me was the noticeable increase in road noise on dry pavement and a somewhat "squishy" quality that was noticeable primarily during hard braking. Always glad to put the Michelins back on for warmer weather driving. All that said, I've purchased a set of 275/35/20 tires to mount on the 706M OE wheels for winter duty.

Has anyone recently ordered the Pirelli Sottozero 3s and gotten a recent (2020) production year from anywhere?
I ordered a set of 285/35/20s from Tirerack but when I received them they were 2018s.. was not a fan of paying full retail for 3 year old new tires so I returned them. I called them to see if they had more recent ones but the guy on the phone told me everything they had locally in the northeast were 2018s in that spec.. |

I would gladly run tires a few years old but I think they should be marked down. These tires are extremely pricey and I also would expect to new stock not new "old" stock.

Thanks I didn't even consider anything besides the Sottozero or PA4 so far. The Vredesteins seem to be good based on reviews, will order a set 275 squared as well. Am also lowered on Dinan HAS with spacers so will see how it all goes.

I'm ordering the PA5* tire and wheel assembly. It's expensive, sure, but very worth it I think. Part number 36110003049 for the squares.

You can also get the new Pirelli P Zero Winter tires in the stock 20" sizes (275/285) at a BMW dealer. They are a bit pricey, but there is a $100 rebate currently offered.
