6mt cannot handle the power and torque of the 35d. Steptronic can.

There are 6mt's that will handle the power, just have to find one that will work. Also be a pain in the ass to convert with all the electronis I'm sure. Not worth it IMHO. I'd like to find the true limits of the auto then see how it can be upgraded.

Our tranny is limited to 700nm which is roughly 520 lb./ft. of torque.

Those are the ratings from ZF. I imagine they would want to provide some sort of margin to protect the transmission. How do you propose to determine how much margin they gave?

So much torque with a JBD, you probably could get by with a 3-speed manual if one exists. These cars don't need no steenking RPMs.

Alternatively, get a 330d 6mt like mine and mod that. I think that would be a damn sight easier and cheaper than a completely new transmission and electronics!

True. Now BMW only has to sell them in the U.S.
