i dont understand your last statement.
any bumper can be painted, multiple times. It's how i make a living... That being said, for the job to be done right, they need to remove the bumper, remove the sensors, (paint them also) and then re-install them. What is so difficult? There is nothing that is "one time usage" on a bumper. If they are saying you should replace anything, it's a lie. Shit like this makes my blood boil. Honestly, for that, i'd just touch it up. It's bound for more abuse, especially if it's lowered. |

This is true. I own a shop and we are a BMW CCRC. BMW does not allow repainting of the front or rear covers, on most of the newer models, due to excess film build that could inhibit the ADAS sensors behind the covers. Tru story.

Can it be seen from the front of the car? I assume not. I wouldn't worry about it if not.

So what happens if you have an accident and the bumper needs to be replaced with a new unpainted bumper?
Are they saying that you can't paint a new OEM bumper, or you just have to follow strict paint depth guidelines?

So, what about fitting front lips?
Does this affect sensors? |

I have an RKP Front Lip and Ive never any issue with the sensors.
The only thing that is a problem with the Lip is I have to be cognizant and not park to close to the parking blocks; I’ve dinged it once or twice. The trick is to drive very slowly until the sensor(s) start beeping then just stop and put it in park. |

this is such bullshit, and you know it. I dont care if you own a shop or not. This is just another way for the consumer, or insurance company to pay more money. The sensor itself has paint on it, so i see no issue. I just did a brand new 5 series the other day, removed the bumper, removed sensors, reinstalled everything. works fine... the only thing that is one time use are the reflectors. everything else can go back on. |

I'd say they are full of shit. From my take, they are saying don't bondo over/near the sensors. If you're telling me you're going to replace every bumper that comes into your shop, that is pure insanity. I simply can't understand it. And it's not as if i haven't repaired one already. |

Really, you fix cars and you don’t know this??? Single, two, three, and now four stage paint processes..... some colors cover well, some take many coats to achieve the proper coverage.

cool, man. I'm sure you enjoy ripping folks off on a bumper job. you're telling me you'd tell someone like OP to replace his bumper if he came into your shop? That is criminal. |
