Mine is currently in the shop and they were able to hear the noise. They sent my video to Germany and think they might know what the issue is. They think it might be coming somewhere from the rear axle - he said something about a phlange. I dunno. I'll post again when I hopefully pick it up tomorrow and I'll get a better explanation. Hopefully problem gets solved

Have exactly the same noise on mine, also a 2018 car. I'm not sure I would have picked it up if I hadn't seen these posts but now it is very evident but only within 1st 1 to 2 mins of driving. Looking forward to update and I'll book it in with BMWHK to look at..

Mine also comes from rear. I'm not sure what phlange is but I looked up and it might be something my service guy was referring to.

Wish you luck and hope to hear updates from you.

I swear this sound comes from somewhere in the front not the rear.

Hi

First post here, I have joined to say I have the same problem.

Had my M5C now for a month, and keep hearing this noise.

I don’t really want to get it fixed if the parts take a month to arrive (and no guarantee yet that it’ll fix it) as I need the AWD for winter.

Thanks to all the people who have posted YouTube videos to prove this issue.

Is it the same sound? Did you try to hear with all the windows closed?
Mine comes from rear for sure.

If yours come from front and makes the same sound, then it might be somewhere from the wheels or suspensions. That's the only things in both front and rear.

Surprising and sorry to hear the same thing is happening with M5C. I thought this could have been issue only for 2018 and more so from certain production time range.

Possible Answer?

My BMW centre called me today to say the have identified that my backing plate on one of the rotors in the rear was loose. These are supposed to in a fixed position. They are going to replace it.

I will have the car back before the weekend so will hope to enjoy just the sound of the car - and nothing else!

For the guy in the last post - in you're case you could be right; it could be the front.

Fingers crossed

anyone who has had this problem "fixed" by dealer.

please post up the work order, or simply advise what parts were replaced.

my car is suppose to be going in on Thursday would be handy if i had that info.

thank you.

Loose backing plate is an easy fix and you should be able to check them yourself when the weather eases off.
Not had anything go wrong on mine in 9 months.

My rear suspension noise was "fixed" by replacing a bunch of parts and then came back after about a week, as far as I know the local dealers have a handful of M5 with this same problem...so its not looking good. My dealer has been very good to work with. - If you or anyone wants the work order PM me

You can always call BMW client relations, if they get enough of the same issue they'll get an engineering team to start looking into the issue rather than just the dealer and ultimately come out with a TSB. A good dealer should be opening a case with BMW too.

Their North America number is 1-800-831-1117

I'm still waiting fir my car. The backing plate is supposedly on back order and is coming from Germany. I should have it by end of the week. They seem confident that this is going to resolve the issue. I hope it does. Will post my work order when I get it.
