F90 Windshield replacement
My brand new M5 (2300 miles) caught a rock to the windshield - FML!
Before I head to my dealer, curious if anyone knows a ballpark on price? Mine has driver assist package. |

Ouch, you can count at least 1K plus programming 2 cameras ( which might be free from bmw )
I just replaced M240 last week and this alone was $550 In Wi insurance doesn't pay, it goes towards deductible

In your dreams, start saving.
Here in the UK windscreen cover is about £75/160 and gets you a new screen.

Mine was quoted as $960 for windshield and 5.2 hours labor.
Windshield BMW w/head-up 51317388745 display I have to go back for the proper reprogram of the TWO sensors. They may have only done one. Currently investigating the proper technique. My heads up display is fine at night but during the day it get DIMMER as the light outside gets brighter. LOL backwards. Mike

$0 deductible on glass here in NY.
The only downside is, insurance company insists on Safelite doing the work, not BMW. I insisted on BMW doing the work and apparently I was better at insisting. (That was my old X5. Dealership charged 1.8k out the door.) |

Better double check the dealer. Most BMW dealers already contract it out to safelite.

Must recode the rain sensor and the light sensor. I don't think Safelite can do that correctly.

My local dealer is doing the work for about $1800. The glass is $1200 but driver assist and sensor reprogramming is about $500. In 2007 I bought a brand new Lariat f150 - I also love trucks, don't judge me, and it came with a specially treated windshield (I paid extra). I don't know why at $135k car couldn't offer that upgrade too. |

There is NO WAY IN HELL I'll uses Safelite again. Last time in my RS6 I had them come and replace it in my driveway. Watched the guy do the job. Nice enough guy, but the bottom seam was not set properly and I ended with a water problem that took out my TCU. (located on the floor of the passenger compartment). My HOMEOWNERS covered that LOL. It's worth doing it at the dealership. They take on ALL the liability for a botched job even if they outsource it on site.

That should stop the screen cracking/chipping.

Just got tagged with a rock here in Jersey on the beloved Garden State Parkway. I'm so pissed off about it.
Already put it in my claim and emailed my service advisor. What is everyone's experience with Jersey dealers doing the auto glass. I am planning on using Park Ave BMW. |

There's always a possibility you'll end up with a windshield installed incorrectly leading to wind noise, leaks, rust, poorly calibrated sensors, etc.

$3,800 (inc. tax). So that seems to be 100% in-line with your $1200 + $1800 + $500 (3500), Think labor was $1400-ish though. I have Allstate, so it seems like I have to go through Safelite first, but they seems to not have an option for glass for F90 M5, so I hope that they will allow me to have BMW do the work (they need 1 day to get the screen and 1 day to install), Safelite told me I had to way 2-3 weeks as they were fully booked. As reference ... my 911 Turbo S, also have rain sensor and camera ... but that was only $1,500 (bit less I think) ... At PORSCHE dealer ship. Who would have known that Porsche repair/parts is 1/3 of BMW? Same with touch up paint ... same identical bottles ... for my M3 BMW charged $34 or something ... Porsche charged $17. Crossing my fingers and hope I can get away with $250 deductible and not $4,000 ... |

Doing it was much easier than I though it would be. Came with a vacuum syringe, resin, blade and a UV light. Either way for the price it might be worth giving it a shot yourself. I think Safelite charges $140 for rock damage (now I know how to fix it myself, so I don't have to in case I get another fixable one). |
