Thanks for the information. Was it a custom box, or did you buy one of JL Audio's pre-fab boxes/driver setup? If so, which one? JL amp as well?

Are you pleased with the result?
I went with the pre-made JL sealed box. http://www.jlaudio.com/cs112g-W6v3-c...-systems-93307 . Paired it up with Alpine 600 watts mono amp. Sounded pretty good.

Any of you check out this thread? Pretty cool solution, though requires a custom enclosure.

Did you have to wire a sub-control knob to the dash anywhere?

Also, how are you enjoying it?

I'm putting in a trunk subwoofer for my HK system. For me, it's crucial not to weigh the car down or take up all my trunk space, so I am trying out a Digital Designs SL710 redline slim profile 10" sub (just one), paired with a DD amp. I'm Having a custom box built that will match the trunk carpet and will face the sub downward so the whole thing looks factory. It'll only sit up about 5", and while taking the full width of trunk space pressed up against the pass through, won't fully impede it if I want to use it. Should be done in the next week and I'll post a review and pictures.

I'm sorry to tell you the Jl enclosure with the 8w3v3 woofers in it has a slot port on both sides . You need at least 2-3 inches from the sides for ports.
There are other solutions if you want to upgrade the under seat subs if you don't have b&o .

Also, stopped by my local car stereo place. JL Audio makes an enclosure that has two 8" 8W3v3 speakers in it. It fits perfect in our trunk. See attached picture. They also make a powered version of this, but it's a bit wider. They didn't have one in stock so I couldn't test fitment of that one. And it only weighs 32 pounds.

I think there are ample places in the trunk to get a speaker level input for a converter as aren't the amps for the system housed behind the liners? Adding an amp should be easy since the battery is in the trunk. The only thing they'd have to run up front is a bass control knob.

So overall it seems fairly easy to add. Box w/ speakers is about $500 on sale. So not cheap. Amp can range from 250-600 depending on which level JL amp you go with. So I figure 1000-1500k with misc parts and labor.

Yeah, I was worried about that so I kind of checked that one off my list. Honestly put this project on the back burner for a bit, but was probably going to look at one of the H.O. Wedges instead. I think those are ported to where it would be facing the trunk so it might work better.

I do have the B&W option and funny, my sub under the driver's seat was blown. I'm waiting on a replacement from Germany under warranty.

I'm about to add an AudioFrog 12" sub in the trunk on my F90. Hopefully this trunk isn't too insulated.

On a 2016 M3 I replaced the underseat speakers with Earthquake SWS 8XI and ran them as subs from a new amp. I'd assume they would fit in the F90 as well. I remember the installer making some sort of MDF ring to make sure they fit perfectly. https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...d-SWS-8XI.html

It's not the B&W, it's something else...

I was just thinking about adding a sub. Then I hopped in the car, heard the most incredible bass for about 5 seconds from my music and then the base/volume got clipped.

I'd never heard that bass before, but i'm not always listening to something w great bass for the first 5 secs in my car either. I notice the volume gets clipped EVERY time, and apparently the bass range does too. I'm on a Google Pixel 3XL, bluetooth, spotify, B&W sound.

Has anyone figured out how to get around this?

You are saying you are running the factory system and running it into distortion? Or you upgraded your sub and that's what is distorting?

I just realized that I never posted the pictures of my sub. I ended up facing it towards the backseat as there are rarely people in the back. I simply used two strips of Velcro to secure the box, so it doesn't fall over when I punch the gas. Also, note the positioning of the amp under the trunk floor.

Terrier15 Did your solution make a significant difference?

How do you control the amount of added base?... Any remote control?
What adapter did you use for the line-in?

I would love to see additional photos showing power connections, audio adapters, how you mounted your amplifier near the battery...

Advice please guys.

I am addi g a 12 jlw6 in the trunk of my 2018 F90 m5 noncomp with b&w. The sub will be in a jl sealed enclosure and easily removable with the amp under the trunk floor.

My installer is saying he can get the feed from disconnecting one of the underseat subs and using that to feed the trunk sub. He said this will allow the bass to be controlled via the bowers and Wilkins idrive eq.

Can someone please confirm this is the best option? Will this cause any issues or limitations?

Thanks

Just to let everyone know for an easy option which bangs. I ended up getting

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kicker-...?skuId=3526208

of which I had experience in my Tundra. I tapped into sub wires and installed it on top of rear deck in the center. Sub comes with 2 straps which can be looped around center head rest and that's all. All I can say is that my son said, now we have massaging back seats as well due to bass. I have set the gain to little less than half and bass is just amazing. Sub wouldn't work in trunk due to its design and size. Its more suited for inside cabin verses outside. I'll add some pictures to show install tomorrow. Thx
