I just got my car 5k miles so far on the clock I didn’t even check the tank area yet. But I think the heat shields should be more than enough to protect the tank. The converter is what holds the most heat if that’s gone shouldn’t the overall Downpipes run cooler due to less restrictions ? Thats my way of thinking.

Im not sure it works like that but I’m no expert. I’d assume heat coming right off the turbo will heat the components the same regardless if it’s catted or straight. My feeling is that it’s dependent on the type of steel and how much heat it absorbs vs the stock pipes. I hope you’re right about the heat shields. Seems the tanks will randomly leak regardless so maybe there is no control anyway!

Back to your comment about AWE, I have had 2 touring exhausts with pretty good fitment on prior Audis… but the switch path on my s4 was cursed and the valves would randomly start malfunctioning.
(Yes Im a converted Audi owner&#129315

Seems the reviews for the m5 have been decent. Its a good note with downpipes and the price is reasonable.

Interesting point about the steel I might have to test out the before and after of the heat dissipating from the heat shield. If I get a chance lol. And oh boy I was on the same boat. I originally came from a b8 s5 back in the day. But bmw dynamics are subpar!!

Looks like MAD pipes and awe will be the way. You don’t have smell at all with the High flows?
I have a set of CTS high flow cat primaries that I would sell. I ran them for a few thousand miles and then changed to MAD catless primaries. The smell bothers some, but not others. I am one of the others.

I added a turbo blanket over the back of the turbos and primary DPs. PTP Turbo blankets. Will post a review post soon

Yes you will get some smell but not as bad as full catless. But yes the smell is present.

The one high flow cat in the system with everything else being straight thru seems to be the optimal sound on this platform.

There is one other unique option I still want some more feed back on.
There are 2-3 videos circulating, I’ll report back with links, where they have the primary as a DP and the secondary as a high flow cat, backwards of what we are all doing. And it sounds F’ING AMAZING.

There is one manufacture we have found: Stone. There is a recent thread on this in this forum section. Here is the stone f90 DPs….but $4600
stone catted downpipes

I don’t know since I did a bunch of heat reduction things at about the same time. You could do one a time and try to drive the same way with the same ambient temperature and test with an infrared, but I was not going to bother doing that. I am pretty confident the turbine wraps don’t hurt.

Turbine blankets and wrapping or coating downpipes appeals to me more than draping a PTP blanket on top of everything since the PTP blanket traps heat in the Vee. I’d rather trap it in the turbine and piping. Some have tested the PTP blanket, though, and claim it helps. I forget whether those people did temperature or acceleration tests.

I ordered a Supersprint turbo manifold and am trying to decide whether to do nothing, wrap it, or coat it — maybe Swaintech. Have to call them to find out the turnaround time once it arrives. It’s stuck in customs in NJ right now.

Dam I got the awe track and it’s loud AF.. got catless primaries and secondaries waiting to be installed. Going to have cold start removed tho so neighbors won’t have me as much. I think if u leave it in efficient it won’t be that bad then when u wanna rip it switch it to sport plus

I just wanted primaries to get rid of the heat. If the CEL could easily be coded off by me then i would do this tomorrow. but the thought have having to constantly get it recoded every time my moronic dealer codes my car and thus will know i changed cats creates hesitation.

There will be some smell with 200 cell. But I still recommend.

Correct, 200 cell was never intended to stop all the smell but be a midpoint between a factory cat and the high flow of catless.

They are all the same. The only one a few have complained about is vrsp due to the lack of mounting tabs leading to rattle or loosening. Buy what is cheapest. MAD is a good value.

Full catless + no valves = your neighbours worst enemy, unless you do cold start delete.

Your car will literally sound like this M8:
