M8 and M5 ZF Transmission

I've heard that the M8 and F90 M5 both share the same ZF transmission, but do they have different software? If so, couldn't M5 owner's theoretically get flashed for the same software version the M8 has for the ZF transmission?

Yes probably, but I doubt that your dealer will accept doing this.

For example, the M5 and M5C have the same engine, but a different tune that makes the M5C cracks and pops much more than the base model. No dealer will accept installing the M5C tune on the base M5.

I think iDrive 7 M5s (post 7/2019 prod date) have the same gearbox software as the M8. I was at an airstrip last month doing some drag races with my 911 and there was a stock M5C (iDrive 7) that raced a non-comp M5 with JB4. It was pretty obvious the M5C had better gearbox software as it pulled ahead on all starts. The non-comp caught up upwards of 120mph, but it was clear the M5C was launching and shifting better.

you couldn't possibly know this. two seperate drivers, one with a moddedd car.

jb4 car could have had a hard time getting out of the hole clean for all we know.

None of the cars spun off the launch and they did multiple runs, so I do know. limey also said the same thing when he got his 2020 M5C - much faster shift times when launching, compared to his iDrive6 car.

Matt Farah at TheSmokingTire said he noticed a difference in shifts between the M5 and M8.

Edit: He mentions the differences at around 5:35 in the video.

i noticed that my M5C had better and faster starts without the BMS stage 1 .
the car is now faster after the start than it was before but has somehow not as good starts as before.
