I'm digging the grille (who knows if that's the production version).

It's missing the radar, I wonder what else they removed. I can't imagine that's going to be the final front bumper since it looks so plain, especially since you can hardly see a rear diffuser. I thought both of those affect aero and would be necessary for final calibration at the ring?

If they stripped this down to 3800 lbs (dreaming I know) would be at the dealer right now placing an order. Remove central locking, power trunk, a bunch of interior options, sound deadening, lighter glass, add carbon buckets and maybe we see 4K lbs?

Don't think there is much of a market for this, but would be interesting to see them experiment with something this radical. Would be quite a statement piece if they did build something like that.

Near zero market for a decontented, more expensive m5. Removing such items would take away the solid, quiet and comfortable ride, etc. We already have M3s and M4s for the track, etc. A saving grace for a CS model might be another 100hp, but this is already available from a $750 piggy... .

To take 500-600 lbs out would be an accomplishment - it would by and large yield a 16 foot 2 seat car, with little to no interior and lots of CF. I agree not much of a market, even less of a market when you consider a vehicle like that would cost 150+. I think it then also creates the issue of price vs competition which is a problem the M8 is running against - a lot of much better, much faster, and way better handling cars for less money let alone the same money as the M8. BMWs sweet spot has always been in sub 100k cars. Their ever increasing entry of trying to up sell cars like the M3/4/5/6/8 etc into the 100k+ market along with very, very, very bad resale has not been kind to them.

I’m not the biggest BMW fan these days, but after having and pretty much hating the M3 and M4 I owned, my M5C is good at what it does and offers. I don’t think stripping it down to create some facade of a racer sedan is worth the price or worth the time.

between the slow burn of "spy pics" of the LCI M5 and the new M3/4 I'm actually starting to get disinterested in following. Does anybody know when they are actually going to release anything real given the autoshow circuit is all screwed up right now?

M5 CS makes less sense than a luxury package on a Lotus Exige.

That sounds like an XE Project 8, and I don't think that car sold very well. They would have to offer a hypothetical stripped down car at the same price (or cheaper) for it to work.

If it were $150k+, then people might as well spend a bit more and get a much more special experience (9k rpm redlines and a 6-speed manual) in the 911 GT3.

This silver M5 CS was spotted on video on the Nurburgring (see first car up).

Did someone overlay audio of a locomotive or are they doing some serious remodeling at the ring? Lol

*edit - or is my phone fucked again?

Ya it's called the M3 CS.

I don't know why anyone would buy that version you describe. A worse 5 series in every way.

I wonder if my M5 sounds like that.
If that's the case I should sit by the street and ask someone to drive it up and down the neighborhood!

A current M5 Competition set on Sport+ will sound good when the driver is hammering around the track.

No doubt, but would a X8 M make any sense?
Does it make sense there is no 4 gran coupe M because "it would probably not find relevance in any market"?
Would a Diesel M make sense?
etc...

I would not presume that those guys in Munich start acting rational all of a sudden. Based on their weird shit uptil now, there is no reason to.

Curious how BMW will improve the power for the CS 🤔 we will see an electric motor added?
I think they will add something like what merc has with there EQ BOOST.
