However when it comes to chassis tuning, I honestly believe Cadillac is ahead of BMW and the Germans.

SUVs are winning the sales day here in US. To your point they likely won't displace german or Asian car owners. Caddy should focus on SUVs. I had three new Escalades starting in 05 and ending with an 11, then realized the German build quality for SUVs was unreal and far exceeded out 90k Escalade with a straight rear axle, hard plastic trim, an antique power plant, and no technology except the awesome magnetic ride dampers. We switched to GL Merc and then added our BMWs. and haven't looked at a domestic SUV since. Competition is good for all. I hope caddy figures it out or they will end up like Pontiac. They should pay attention to Lincoln. I am sure there will be a souped up Aviator soon. Shelby Aviator?! Aviator GT. Ha. In the meantime, I will keep enjoying our F86 and G05. |

Had a new Cadillac SUV rental a week ago. All I could see was how crappy the infotainment screen was, like an old TN LCD with horrible viewing angles. Looking at the screen from any angle except straight on made any black background light gray. It was horrible.
Based on that I'm sure the rest of the materials in the car are cheapest of the cheap. |

I think class is a sense of how the package looks and the feelings that it emotes in the person driving it / looking at it / etc. It can share parts all day with a “lesser” car and that doesn’t bother me. For example: just because the mansion used some 2x6 lumber in its construction doesn’t mean it is any lesser because the gas-station down the road has some 2x6 lumber in it as well. Or I’ll turn your logic on its head - if you knew how many parts the M5 shares with the not so plain Rolls-Royce.... you have to swing the axe both ways if such comparisons are to be invoked would you not agree? :

What I don't agree with is the statement that the m5 is a class above Cadillac right now, especially the "V" or "blackwing" or whatever the hell they're calling them models these days

I'm surprised they are even bench-marking a car all together given that most reviewers already called the CTS-V the best handling vehicle in its class. The problem was always the interior but never really how it drove.

GM has the might to do whatever they put their mind to. Just like Ford. They seem to need a better strategy, marketing and some consistency. Reboot with the Corvette as the starting point. |
